Busy Week and Guest Room Changes

I've been on a cleaning spree this week.  It all started Monday when I pulled everything out of the linen closet and reorganized it.  I took 4 large bags of "stuff" out.

I straightened three more closets, put new hardware on the kitchen cabinets, switched the drapes and bedding in the guest room, and hung different artwork.  You've seen this bedding before, but I was tired of the heavy drapes, and the brown, so it was time to bring back the lighter colors.

 Different artwork

 New paint for lamps
I painted these lamps so they would blend better in here. This is their third incarnation!!   They were originally dark gray metal, then I painted them gold, now they are white.

 Different scarf and vignette
I told you earlier in the week about moving furniture around. Armoire holds tv, and has empty drawers for clothes storage.

I decided to use the white tub in the chair for a welcome 'basket'.  I've placed items in it that a guest might need.

It holds, a large towel, three wash cloths, bath mesh, pumice stone, jar with swabs and cotton balls, deodorant, lotion, feminine products, wipes, Room Spray, toothbrush, toothpaste, loofah pads, and a book, "Stories for a Woman's Heart".  If a guest is coming, I will add a snack and water.  I think I would feel welcome with these items in the room.

Thrifty Bookcase Makeover

About a year ago, I was working on a photo gallery area at the lake home. There is an area about 7x7 between the living room, and the hall bath. I bought a really inexpensive ($20.00) bookcase to use there to hold family photos. I hurriedly placed photos on it, and didn't think much about it.   The last time we were at the lake, I was sitting there looking at how badly it looked, wondering what I could do to spruce it up a little.  It had all colors/types of picture frames -red, pink floral, wood, brass, you name it!   I remembered seeing adhesive shelf liner at the Dollar General the day before.  So I made a quick trip back there, and bought one 9 ft. roll for less than $3.00.  I know this is not an original idea and has been done by lots of people, but I wanted to show you anyway.   First, I emptied out all the photos, pulled out the shelves, measured, and cut the paper to fit inside the bookcase.  I also took all the photos out of the frames and w...

Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project.  I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow.  First, I found an old pillow I no longer use.  I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it.  I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers.  I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night.  The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion.  I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...
