Sharing Shadymont, My Mountain Cottage

I haven't done a lot of decorating for the 4th, but I did get a wreath made for the front door. I used a wreath form, mesh ribbon, and burlap ribbon pieces to make this.  I probably have $8.00 worth of supplies in it, but I already had all of it, so nothing new was purchased. Next, I filled this small tote with red, white, and blue flowers that I already had, and placed it on the table between the rockers on the porch. I found this sign a couple of years ago at consignment, I think.  I placed small flags in the pots next to the concrete bench near the front door. Not easy to see, but the flag hangs in the side yard on the electrical pole.  Our ferns have looked so good this summer.  I usually don't have good luck with them.  The secret for us has been to water late EVERY evening.  They have thrived!! We all know that paint can hide a multitude of sins!  I bought this wonderful rose picture at the consignment shop when I bought the hall tree (see previous post).   Don't get me wrong, I love the distressed look, but this frame was just a little to dark for my taste.  I've bought some Waverly chalk paint at Wal Mart, and I really like its coverage.  So this is how the frame looks now. I painted the outer edge with white, then the inner part with pink (Ballet Slippers), and I left the most inner section white with gold.  Love it now!!  It still has the shabby chic look that's in my sunroom, but it has a cleaner look. I know, it was on the hall tree, now in the sunroom.  You know I can't leave anything alone!!

I'm still pinching myself to see if it's true!!  I bought the MOST. WONDERFUL. halltree today at the Hen's Nest Consignment Shop!!   I really do need to stay out of there, but I would have never forgiven myself if I hadn't bought this beautiful piece! I first saw this piece a couple of months ago when it was priced at $225.00.  The price wasn't that much really, but I'm very cheap  frugal, and couldn't make myself spend that amount! A couple weeks ago, it went to $125.00, and I still passed it up, even though I visited it everytime I went to the shop. Yesterday, I saw it on their FaceBook page for........$89.99!!!!!   Yes, that's right, $89.99!  I just knew it would be gone before I could get there, but my daughter and granddaughters and I went down this morning, and drove the truck, "just in case". It all started with this wonderful runner I found at Hen's Nest. Notice anything about it?   It isn't embroideried, but has the pattern stamped on it! All that was finished was the crocheted trim around the edge. Last weekend, I decided I would embroider it!  I made a list of the colors of embroidery floss I needed and picked that up at Wal Mart. I worked on it a few hours for a couple of days, and finished it. I haven't been taught to embroidery, but just did it the way I thought it should be done, and I'm satisfied with that. Know what I learned?  I learned that I like doing embroidery!!  So........ I bought a set of stamped pillow cases, and am busy with those now. Here is a peek at the first one, not yet finished. I bought this chair at a moving sale some time back for $15.00.  I love the engraving on it, and the needlepoint seat, but still, it was looking so tired and drab.  It cost so little, I knew it would be alright to paint it.  I have a bottle of Chalk Paint that is called Ballet Slippers. It's pink as you would expect. Early yesterday morning, I decided a quick project was in order, so I placed an old towel underneath the chair, and got busy. I removed the seat, and started painting.  First, I painted the pieces across the back white, being sure to not paint so heavy that the engraved area would be covered too much. Then I painted the remainder of the chair in pink, and left it to dry.   My daughter, granddaughters and I went shopping, so I picked up 3/4 yards of this lovely fabric at Joann's for $2.25.  The pink in the fabric works well with the paint, and the teal color is the same as the walls in this room. I found a shower curtain at the consignment shop, and remembered that I already had towels and rugs that would go with it. I bought it for an easy update for the guest bath.  It's so important to have the guest bath clean and supplied with items a guest might need. Pardon the IPhone photos, my camera wasn't charged. I've had some time to myself recently, so a little shopping was in order.  I showed you the bedding I bought for $33.00.  I also bought sofa and loveseat slipcovers. I had grown tired of the drop cloth covers I made.  I knew about all the mistakes, and just couldn't get past that, so after a couple of months, I packed them up.  At some point, I might make some corrections to them and use them again.  I picked up the stretch slip covers from Wal Mart.  They only had taupe to choose from, but at least they cover the worn areas of my furniture, and fit fairly well after some adjustments where I sewed the arm sections by hand to make them fit. I would have liked a sage green color, but none available. I also got this pillow.  I saw it a few days ago, and couldn't get it out of my head, so I went back and got it to go on the guest bed. My sunroom is my shabby chic room.  I showed you here where I updated the room for $6.00 worth of fabric I found at the consignment shop.  I was able to do so many things with that piece of fabric. In keeping with the pink/shabby chic look, I decided to hang various plates above the windows in the sun room.  Any plate with pink roses, is fair game for a spot above the windows.   This lovely platter was found at an antique shop for $5.00.
