Recent Good Will Finds and How I am Using Them

I've been hitting the Good Will stores frequently in the last 3 weeks, and have bought some neat treasures. The plate and the lampshade are recent finds. Yesterday I purchased the vase on the right and the 2 pictures The artist, Abigail makes her art from pressed flowers. The lamp shades came in a package of 2.  The  shades were marked @ 5.99 ea., new in packages.  So they were new for $2.92. I liked the frames, too. I admire this artists work!  So pretty.  This vase was found some time ago, and the two of them work fine together. The look showing the wall, a sort of gallery look. This cabinet is called a hall cabinet and was made nearby my home.  I've managed to keep it the original color. Last week I found a large package or round balls in aqua and white. So I put them in the bowl on top of the crystal curio. Recently we eat at the bar.  I found these BHG placemats new with tags.  This bunch ...

The Fall Mantel & Hearth

I'm not going to do so much decorating this fall.  In fact, I think I finished it today.  I'll show you the mantel, which I kept really simple. I simply filled the 'gate' with fall flowers, added the shutters, and two small white pumpkin candles, and called it done.  I did go back and add 2 silver candle sticks to elevate the pumpkin candles so they would show up better.   On the hearth I added leaves, flowers, and feathers to the two vases, wrapped some burlap around the vases, and tied it with jute string.  I did this to tone down the green of the vases. So there you have my simple mantel and hearth, all ready for Autumn!    Now I need your advice, please. In the photo below, I have removed the vases from the hearth and placed one on each side of the door in the foyer....  one at each side light.  Question:  vases on the hearth or in the foyer? I'd love your opinion. Have you started d...

Mantel Decor

Sometimes when I change things around, I might try several different looks before deciding on the one that makes the 'cut'.   This was the case recently.  I was trying to decide what I wanted on the mantel after all the red of the past few months.  First I tried this look. I placed this picture (actually wood) on books to elevate it a little.  I then added the DT birds and the flower pot (consignment buy).  I actually left it this way for a few hours, but it didn't "feel" right.  I like the items I used, and in looking at these photos, it may be the two green vases (see first photo) that threw it off. I think I might recreate this for Easter and use other items, instead of the green vases. What do you think?  Maybe add some bunnies?   Maybe some bowls and pitchers??? This just might show up again.....soon! I will joing these fun parties: Share Your Cup   Open House Thursday Creative Thing...
