Spring on the Inside

It looks like spring inside my house.  I'm enjoying using this 'olden' living room suite, in all its floral splendor!! It's so light and bright in the living area.  Here are some of the places where I see a bit of spring, and my favorite colors, pink and aqua.

On the desk, now in the family room, I have the colors of spring.

I've used lighter items on the gallery wall.

I love this piece that my daughter gave me for an early birthday gift.  She found it at HL.  I won a sweet banner a couple of years ago from a blogger, and used parts of it for this spring-like banner hanging from the hooks.

Mantle (using pink and aqua)

I brought this piece into the dining area.  It's facing the front door, and is one of the first things seen upon entry.

View into the family room.

On the hall tree

Even though we have a full month of winter remaining, I am loving having spring colors in my home.  The days can be dreary and rainy outside, but it's spring on the inside.  Are you longing for Spring?

Thrifty Bookcase Makeover

About a year ago, I was working on a photo gallery area at the lake home. There is an area about 7x7 between the living room, and the hall bath. I bought a really inexpensive ($20.00) bookcase to use there to hold family photos. I hurriedly placed photos on it, and didn't think much about it.   The last time we were at the lake, I was sitting there looking at how badly it looked, wondering what I could do to spruce it up a little.  It had all colors/types of picture frames -red, pink floral, wood, brass, you name it!   I remembered seeing adhesive shelf liner at the Dollar General the day before.  So I made a quick trip back there, and bought one 9 ft. roll for less than $3.00.  I know this is not an original idea and has been done by lots of people, but I wanted to show you anyway.   First, I emptied out all the photos, pulled out the shelves, measured, and cut the paper to fit inside the bookcase.  I also took all the photos out of the frames and w...

Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project.  I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow.  First, I found an old pillow I no longer use.  I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it.  I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers.  I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night.  The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion.  I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...
