Turquoise, Tulips, and Thankfulness

I love having touches of turquoise/aqua around the house.

A vignette on a table in the family room

This cloche covers a taper holder in the shape of a tulip.

I'll bet that the men who worked with these insulators never imagined that we would collect them, let alone, DECORATE with them.  This one is special because my late father-in-law who was an electrician for the city where they lived, actually brought this one home.  I seriously doubt he would believe that it is considered a treasure to us.  It made a great door stop for many years.
This table cloth just screams Spring with its tulips!!

Then of course, these Atlas and Ball jars provide more pops of turquoise for this table vignette with the bird and rabbit hinting at Spring.

I am gradually tweaking certain areas of the house in preparation for the change of the Seasons, that time of rebirth that we all anxiously await.....

that time when we can stop and smell the roses,

and remember that we are so blessed, and so loved by our Heavenly Father!

Father, help us to be ever mindful of the blessings you have showered on us.  Help us to do your will, and be an inspiration to those around us.
Amen.

  2. I love the color turquoise. It is so soft and serene. One of my favorites is the turquoise canning jars. Love how they look with light coming through them.

  3. So pretty! I also love little touches of aqua and turquoise in my house - in fact, I just added a hint in my dining room. Hope you can stop by the enchanted oven for a visit.

Thrifty Bookcase Makeover

About a year ago, I was working on a photo gallery area at the lake home. There is an area about 7x7 between the living room, and the hall bath. I bought a really inexpensive ($20.00) bookcase to use there to hold family photos. I hurriedly placed photos on it, and didn't think much about it.   The last time we were at the lake, I was sitting there looking at how badly it looked, wondering what I could do to spruce it up a little.  It had all colors/types of picture frames -red, pink floral, wood, brass, you name it!   I remembered seeing adhesive shelf liner at the Dollar General the day before.  So I made a quick trip back there, and bought one 9 ft. roll for less than $3.00.  I know this is not an original idea and has been done by lots of people, but I wanted to show you anyway.   First, I emptied out all the photos, pulled out the shelves, measured, and cut the paper to fit inside the bookcase.  I also took all the photos out of the frames and w...

Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project.  I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow.  First, I found an old pillow I no longer use.  I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it.  I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers.  I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night.  The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion.  I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...
