Hitting the Yard Sales

The weather here is gorgeous.  Blue sky, just a slight nip in the air, just the kind of weather to shop some yard sales.  I've found several the last 2 days that were really good ones, and of course a few good finds.  The find I'm happiest about is this wonderful fabric.

There is 5 yards of fabric at 66" wide, price $1.00!!  I plan to make curtains for my bed room.  I will have to add a band of some type of trim to make them the length I need, but I'm thinking drop cloth at the top or bottom will do the trick, and I already have that!!

This was a $2.00 find, and I liked it, but when I looked at the bottom, I couldn't resist it!!  Kathy Adams was my name for 35 years!!  (my first marriage).  Felt kinda eerie!!

I filled it with mini pumpkins!  Love it!

I bought this flower frog for $3.00.

75 cents for this makeup bag.

This cute shirt for $1.00.

Fabric 25 cents each.  Enough to make pillow covers in the green, probably a yard or more of the yellow.

I already did one project with some of the green fabric.  I copied this idea from Brenda at Cozy Little House. Mine isn't as pretty as hers, but I think it's a neat idea!

Have you visited any yard sales recently?  It's TIME!

I am thrilled with all these treasures for a total of around $8.25!

Thrifty Bookcase Makeover

About a year ago, I was working on a photo gallery area at the lake home. There is an area about 7x7 between the living room, and the hall bath. I bought a really inexpensive ($20.00) bookcase to use there to hold family photos. I hurriedly placed photos on it, and didn't think much about it.   The last time we were at the lake, I was sitting there looking at how badly it looked, wondering what I could do to spruce it up a little.  It had all colors/types of picture frames -red, pink floral, wood, brass, you name it!   I remembered seeing adhesive shelf liner at the Dollar General the day before.  So I made a quick trip back there, and bought one 9 ft. roll for less than $3.00.  I know this is not an original idea and has been done by lots of people, but I wanted to show you anyway.   First, I emptied out all the photos, pulled out the shelves, measured, and cut the paper to fit inside the bookcase.  I also took all the photos out of the frames and w...

Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project.  I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow.  First, I found an old pillow I no longer use.  I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it.  I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers.  I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night.  The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion.  I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...
