Let's Enjoy the Screened Porch

We noticed the other day, that the ferns on the front porch had gotten so heavy, they were damaging the vinyl soffit so we took them down and placed them on the front porch table, and two on the screened porch.

We have had great luck with the plants this year.
The floral "picture" is a painting on a cabinet door that my daughter bought locally.

The addition of two of the ferns really filled in the space.

We had a philodendron that had gotten so big, we could no longer carry it to and from the basement to winterize it, so I took part of it and repotted it, and let the older part of the plant go.  It had not fared well over the winter, and had gotten root bound.  I made two pots, but only one of them survived.

Here is the philodendron I repotted.  It's doing well.

I've been using this ladder for a plant stand for several years. It adds a touch of whimsy.
The huge aloe was purchased at Lowe's and was a tiny little thing.  It has grown into a giant plant.  I repotted the small pots of aloe today.  It was all in one pot, and looked awful, so I pinched off the "ugly", and put it into two pots, and it is so much better.

A co-worker gave me cuttings from her spider plants before I retired, and they just keep multiplying. To pot one, you just cut off one of the "spiders", and stick it in soil, and that's it.  I think I have enough of these plants.

These succulents were really small at the beginning of Spring, but I've used fertilizer for succulents several times, and they have really grown, and look so healthy.

You can see how dry the neighbors pasture is.  We are in a bad drought right now and our yards and pastures are suffering.

Here's where we sit with our coffee most mornings.
These bright green cushions came from At Home, and are very comfy.  I found the green waste basket at GW for $.99.

The swing is the perfect place for a short nap, or to sit and read.

I ordered this tropical swing cushion last year, from a place that makes them to order, so it is the perfect fit, and is extremely well made.

Blogging Again From My Mountain Cottage, Shadymont

After a much needed rest, I'm back with a new blog name and a few slight changes, like the template, and the content will vary and not always be home decor, though that is my niche, and I will continue to have it frequently.  But I want to use my blog to also give those who may read it a little encouragement into the Goodness of God. Some of the fog from my depression is lifting now and I'm starting to feel better.  I've had a really hard time, personally, for the last seven months, and the divorce still isn't final.  I think it is nearing being final now though, and I hope I will continue to get clarity from this fog. I have a story to tell regarding other matters, but I still am not able to talk  about it quite yet.  But when I say I've been through the fire, or maybe the pits of hell, just believe me.  I now understand the meaning of Never say "Never"!  Things can happen to us when we are vulernable that we think would never  happen.  ...

Linens & Things

I love finding tablecloths, runners, napkins, and other linens when I am out thrifting. Whether it be at consignment shops, GW, or yard sales, I will usually snap up a pretty linen if it doesn't have a lot of stains.  I will show you some of my favorites. I found several pieces embroideried with this design at a favorite consignment shop. This blue runner (reversible to stripes), found on consignment. This is one of the nicer quality tablecloths I have found, $4.00 at a thrift store. This cloth was around $10.00 on consignment. This runner is also reversible to polka dots, and was a consignment find. This pink and white gingham is perfect in the sun room, and is a consignment find also. This is the most valuable table cloth I have found, and it was $2.00 at a nearby yard sale.  It is a vintage Wielunder.  They sell on ebay for 30 - 90 dollars.  Mine is in pristine condition! Christmas tablecloth, consignment sale. ...

Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project.  I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow.  First, I found an old pillow I no longer use.  I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it.  I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers.  I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night.  The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion.  I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...
