Moving Things Around and Spring Mantel

I've gotten so lazy about blogging.  I just don't have a lot going on.  Since I live on one income now, I don't do as much shopping, because I don't need a single thing, and I have more than enough of everything.  I sit in my chair quite a bit and watch a bit of YouTube.  I read some and have been thinking for days I would start making some drapes for the bonus room, garage, and the mud/laundry room.  I found some beautiful toile in navy and white and could use it in either of the rooms and there is a large quantity.  I'll end up making them in a few days, I hope, if I can get off my butt!  I have moved small items around in the living area and sunroom and breakfast room.  I removed the easter items today, and rearranged the mantel.

I kept the crosses on the mantel, added the trifold as a backdrop, added an angel.  I like the lightness of this look.

I found this vase of sunflowers at Good Will, and knew they would be fine on the screened porch.

Close-up of tri-fold screen as a backdrop on the mantel.

The sunroom hasn't been changed very much, just a little less clutter.

Pasture outside the sunroom window.  Love this view.

I removed quite a few items from the bookcases in the living room.  There's still plenty there, but it has a lighter feel as well.

This is a hall cabinet I've had for years.  It sits in a corner behind the sofa.  This lamp is a good will find also, as is the pink, white and green vase, and pink/white plate.  I switched some pictures around and moved this one to the living room from the dining room.

The roosters and hen on my Mom's pie safe are GW finds, too.

This table is in the breakfast nook.  I have really enjoyed having this table in this room.  It's great storage for seldom used dishes, etc.

The bible table is now in the living area.

This table may get swapped out with another,  You know things never stay long in one place at my home.

Hope each of you had a happy easter and are starting to get some Spring weather.  It has been beautiful here for several days, but I'm hearing we will have frost on Thursday.  That's Georgia for ya!

Thrifty Bookcase Makeover

About a year ago, I was working on a photo gallery area at the lake home. There is an area about 7x7 between the living room, and the hall bath. I bought a really inexpensive ($20.00) bookcase to use there to hold family photos. I hurriedly placed photos on it, and didn't think much about it.   The last time we were at the lake, I was sitting there looking at how badly it looked, wondering what I could do to spruce it up a little.  It had all colors/types of picture frames -red, pink floral, wood, brass, you name it!   I remembered seeing adhesive shelf liner at the Dollar General the day before.  So I made a quick trip back there, and bought one 9 ft. roll for less than $3.00.  I know this is not an original idea and has been done by lots of people, but I wanted to show you anyway.   First, I emptied out all the photos, pulled out the shelves, measured, and cut the paper to fit inside the bookcase.  I also took all the photos out of the frames and w...

Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project.  I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow.  First, I found an old pillow I no longer use.  I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it.  I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers.  I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night.  The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion.  I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...

The Great White Pumpkin

Ever since I saw the pumpkins made from clothes dryer venting hose, I have wanted to make one.  It just so happened that we had some leftover vent hose in the basement, and while I was down there yesterday, I cut off a piece, taped the ends together with masking tape, and spray painted it white.  I let it dry over night.  This morning I brought it up and finished it.  This project is another freebie, because I had everything needed to complete it. I wrapped a piece of cardboard tube from wrapping paper with jute string for the stem.  Then all I had to do was stick the little sprig of orange and green in beside the stem, tie a piece of rust raffia on it, and it was done! This is a simple project, and only takes a few minutes. Once complete, I changed the coffee table vignette to include it. I placed everything in a consignment store tray I bought several years ago.  I was already using the acorns and flower arrangement on the coffee table. ...
