Let's Spruce Up the Garage

We don't use our garage for storage, but had some things in it, like dog food, a chair, metal side table, the grill, etc. While we were having the house exterior painted, we decided to do the garage interior.  I chose Pisma Dunes in eggshell for the walls, and Pearl Gray concrete stain for the floor.

I just picked up a gray paint from Wal Mart for the steps.  The steps at the back go up to the bonus room, and the door opens into a little storage closet.
I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. We removed everything from the garage, so now it just houses two vehicles, and one small shelf.
Love the shine on the floor!  The walls being in eggshell will hopefully hold up better than the flat paint did that was there before.

Recently I found this shelf unit at Good Will for $9.99, and bought it.  We decided to use it in the garage to hold trash bags and things we need out here.

The garage feels so nice and fresh, and we are enjoying the color combo.  We are trying really hard not to junk it up.  :)

Do you use your garage for storage?

Thrifty Bookcase Makeover

About a year ago, I was working on a photo gallery area at the lake home. There is an area about 7x7 between the living room, and the hall bath. I bought a really inexpensive ($20.00) bookcase to use there to hold family photos. I hurriedly placed photos on it, and didn't think much about it.   The last time we were at the lake, I was sitting there looking at how badly it looked, wondering what I could do to spruce it up a little.  It had all colors/types of picture frames -red, pink floral, wood, brass, you name it!   I remembered seeing adhesive shelf liner at the Dollar General the day before.  So I made a quick trip back there, and bought one 9 ft. roll for less than $3.00.  I know this is not an original idea and has been done by lots of people, but I wanted to show you anyway.   First, I emptied out all the photos, pulled out the shelves, measured, and cut the paper to fit inside the bookcase.  I also took all the photos out of the frames and w...

Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project.  I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow.  First, I found an old pillow I no longer use.  I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it.  I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers.  I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night.  The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion.  I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...
