I'm not going to do so much decorating this fall. In fact, I think I finished it today. I'll show you the mantel, which I kept really simple.
I simply filled the 'gate' with fall flowers, added the shutters, and two small white pumpkin candles, and called it done. I did go back and add 2 silver candle sticks to elevate the pumpkin candles so they would show up better.
On the hearth I added leaves, flowers, and feathers to the two vases, wrapped some burlap around the vases, and tied it with jute string. I did this to tone down the green of the vases.
Have you started decorating for Fall? Are you going simple or extravagant? I'm enjoying simple. Don't forget to give me your feedback on the vases! Thanks!! I'll be sharing more Fall decor in the next few days so check back.

So there you have my simple mantel and hearth, all ready for Autumn!
Now I need your advice, please.
In the photo below, I have removed the vases from the hearth and placed one on each side of the door in the foyer....
one at each side light.
Question: vases on the hearth or in the foyer?
I'd love your opinion.

ReplyDeleteI am getting my porch cleared to start ( as in the hanging baskets are done for the season and a few other plants ) I am in Western Pa and everything is still blooming outside thus far so it does not feel like fall yet so no fall decor indoors yet either! :)
ReplyDeleteKathy! Your mantel is darling! I'm trying to get motivated for fall.... having a hard time though.... :)

ReplyDeleteI haven't done any fall decorating yet, I'm not ready to give up summer. Today in the high 80s and possible storms, next Monday and Tuesday into the 90s before cooling down to more seasonal temperatures mid-week! Our spring was late this year (like 3 weeks late!) and until a few weeks ago I still had day lilies blooming, unheard of, they are usually finished by the end of July. The cicadas are still buzzing too. They came out later than usual. So I'll probably get around to decorating for fall around Christmas time :) I love your mantle, so pretty and those pumpkin candles are so cute! The vases are lovely but my opinion is they're not substantial enough to anchor the space on either side of that great entrance doorway. Needs something taller and heftier, maybe. If I had your mantle and hearth, I would put the vases on one side, one on the floor and one on the hearth, and I would balance that on the other end of the hearth with a low basket filled with autumn colored florals. What a lovely room you have. I wish my fireplace was flanked by built-ins!
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy, I get my Fall up as soon as Sept. arrives. I like to enjoy it before I change it over to Halloween. Seems like the month flies by. The vases are pretty both places, but my choice is for the hearth. I find that I often use a balanced theme in my decorating. But for some reason I think just one item on either side in the entry would be appealing. Enjoy Fall my friend! Thanks for sharing with SYC.

I think on the hearth - I love the combination with the flowers in the fence. Makes a wonderful autumnal look - I do appreciate you sharing with Home and Garden Thursday,
