Decorating with Red

If you have held a yard sale, you know how tired I am right now. I got up at 5:40 AM this morning to go put signs at a BUSY highway near my home, then several others marking the way to my basement. I decided to have it inside because it was 104 here in N.GA today! Whew!! That is some hot weather. The lawn has absolutely dried up. We desperately need rain. Anywhoo, I only decided yesterday that I would have a yard sale today. Luckily, I had already boxed up things for a sale (when we organized the basement), so all I had to do was pull those boxes out, and lay things out for display, and price them. I will continue the sale again tomorrow. I could not believe how many people came!!!! And they bought too!! I didn't advertise in the newspaper or anything. My daughter did put it on the school system classifieds. Although this only goes to those who work for the system. So my traffic was almost completely from my sign on the highway! I got rid of sooooo much stuff!! I sold only furniture and home decor and linens. LOTS of OLD sheets. Went like hotcakes. We had two dining sets (both with 4 chairs each), and I sold both, even though we really could have kept one to use when we're in the basement. I told hubby, that I had sold our seats right out from under us. There's just something so liberating about saying, "sure, I'll take less"! (hee-hee). After the sale tomorrow, I will donate the remainder to the Veterans group in our community for their sale. They are trying to raise money to build a wall of honor. Oh, y'all know what this all means.......I can use my money and go buy more stuff. I'm already planning which consignment stores I'll hit. I know y'all have heard enough about this so on with the show......

If asked to name my favorite color, I would not say red, yet I decorate with this color quite often.

The magnolia picture was bought at Kirkland's several years ago. It is on canvas, no frame or glass, and the scroll pieces on the sides are black metal. It is so realistic. This comforter set is a seersucker type fabric, and is reversible. The other side is mostly white with taupe and red window pane design. (ignore that little pink pillowcase you see peeking through). :)

The lamp by the bed is very old. I just bought a new shade for it.

Walk into the largest guest room, and you will find more red. (and another pink pillow peeking thru)...what's up with this. I need to use different sheets. This comforter is a Ralph Lauren, which was one of my very first consignment purchases.

Back at home in the mountains, there is more red. This shows the inside of the jelly cupboard. The inside color is original to the piece.

Do you find that you do this? I guess red is a favorite color of mine after all. At least it seems to be.

Blogging Again From My Mountain Cottage, Shadymont

After a much needed rest, I'm back with a new blog name and a few slight changes, like the template, and the content will vary and not always be home decor, though that is my niche, and I will continue to have it frequently. But I want to use my blog to also give those who may read it a little encouragement into the Goodness of God. Some of the fog from my depression is lifting now and I'm starting to feel better. I've had a really hard time, personally, for the last seven months, and the divorce still isn't final. I think it is nearing being final now though, and I hope I will continue to get clarity from this fog. I have a story to tell regarding other matters, but I still am not able to talk about it quite yet. But when I say I've been through the fire, or maybe the pits of hell, just believe me. I now understand the meaning of Never say "Never"! Things can happen to us when we are vulernable that we think would never happen. ...

Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project. I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow. First, I found an old pillow I no longer use. I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it. I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers. I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night. The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion. I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...

Thrifty Bookcase Makeover

About a year ago, I was working on a photo gallery area at the lake home. There is an area about 7x7 between the living room, and the hall bath. I bought a really inexpensive ($20.00) bookcase to use there to hold family photos. I hurriedly placed photos on it, and didn't think much about it. The last time we were at the lake, I was sitting there looking at how badly it looked, wondering what I could do to spruce it up a little. It had all colors/types of picture frames -red, pink floral, wood, brass, you name it! I remembered seeing adhesive shelf liner at the Dollar General the day before. So I made a quick trip back there, and bought one 9 ft. roll for less than $3.00. I know this is not an original idea and has been done by lots of people, but I wanted to show you anyway.
