Changing Focus

I'm so impressed and in awe of some of you who make such lovely photographs for your blog.  Pat from Back Porch Musings, Brenda at Cozy Little House, and many others do such a wonderful job.  I absolutely am not a photographer, but I'm having fun trying different special effects on these photos taken throughout my home. You don't have to be a wonderful photographer to use the editing options in photo programs like Picasa, Photoscape, etc.  I've used Picasa in these.

Focus on the candy dish.
Love the way this turned out.
Do you like editing your photos to see what you can come up with?  By changing the focal point the photos change entirely.  So much fun!!!

Hope all of you have a great week!!

  2. Hi Kathy...

Oooh...gorgeous photos, my friend! I think my favorite is the first photo with that beautiful red crystal candy dish! I love how it is focused with the surrounding blurred! Very pretty! My second favorite is the arrangement of autumn leaves! Beautiful photo and beautiful arrangement!

I really do enjoy photography! I just bought a really nice camera last year but must confess..I am still trying to figure it out! Hehe! I guess that is half the fun...experimenting! I also enjoy the photo editing and effects. I could spend hours playing with that. You know, when I first started my blog...it was for the love of interior design, but I think that I enjoy the photography more now. Anyway...I'm being really long winded...guess you can tell it is a passion of mine! Thank you for sharing your GORGEOUS photos with us, dear friend! I loved them!

    Warmest autumn wishes,
    Chari

Linens & Things

I love finding tablecloths, runners, napkins, and other linens when I am out thrifting. Whether it be at consignment shops, GW, or yard sales, I will usually snap up a pretty linen if it doesn't have a lot of stains.  I will show you some of my favorites. I found several pieces embroideried with this design at a favorite consignment shop. This blue runner (reversible to stripes), found on consignment. This is one of the nicer quality tablecloths I have found, $4.00 at a thrift store. This cloth was around $10.00 on consignment. This runner is also reversible to polka dots, and was a consignment find. This pink and white gingham is perfect in the sun room, and is a consignment find also. This is the most valuable table cloth I have found, and it was $2.00 at a nearby yard sale.  It is a vintage Wielunder.  They sell on ebay for 30 - 90 dollars.  Mine is in pristine condition! Christmas tablecloth, consignment sale. ...

What's in the Hutch?

Yesterday I awoke in the mood to do some "deep" cleaning.  First on my list was to dust inside the china cabinet in the dining room.  Can you believe how much dust can get into a closed cabinet.  Really, how does that happen?  My cabinet has glass shelves and they were hazy with dust.  This is a rather tedious job because I not only have china inside, I have all kinds of little "pretties" stored there too.  It's one of the first things you see upon entry into our home, so I really should do this more often.  I want show you the before, sufficeth to say, it had been a while since I had tackled this chore.  Here are some photos showing the "after". Here is a collection of vases and crystal pitchers .   These were all gifts except the smallest one in the front and the one to the right of it. China and a consignment shop cake plate.  The china was formerly my MILs. More china . This little fairy lives here with her 2 sisters. They ...

Decorating Slump

I have absolutely had the hardest time deciding on how to decorate the dining room table for Thanksgiving.  I am not satisfied with anything I've done.  I'll show you the latest in a long string of 'tries'. Anyway, this is the latest try.  I bought six of these chargers at Dollar Tree, at $1 each.   I layered with this dinner plate and salad plate purchased from Wal Mart several years ago. I stopped there.  No decision yet on silver, glassware, or placemats/napkins.    I have the drop cloth/burlap runner I made last week on the table. I brought out this lovely cake stand bought at Good Will for $4.99.  It is centered on the runner.  I like the contrast between the leaded glass and the runner.  I placed the arrangement I made a few weeks ago on top of the cake stand. I added the two white candle sticks with white candles, leaf garlands, 2 small ceramic pumpkins around the cake pedestal, and stopped. I have to decide on ...
