To buy or not to buy :)

I did it again!!!  I went to Sweet Tea Consignment Shop on my lunch hour.  Wow!! What a treat!  I could not walk out without these items.  I tried, I really did, but then I remembered hubby is away and I won't have to sneak in my goodies......hee hee!  I really don't sneak things in, but sometimes I feel just a wee bit guilty for buying things that I really don't NEED, or do I???  To buy or not to buy, that is the question.  :) Look at the goodies I found. Total price:  $13.15  I thought it was so good to find both these pictures in one frame.  I love them both and have admired the large one Marty has of the man.  $6.95  This wooden autumn hanging for .....get this.....$1.39 This kettle was only $5.95. I'm so excited with my new pretties, but there were four more items that I really think needed a new home, so I may have to visit again tomorrow.  She had two lovely white doves for $3.95, a gorgeous piece of blue an...

Tour the Sun Room

I'm not as good as you folks are at decorating with white, but I'm trying to do more of it.  I look at all your wonderful blogs in amazement.  This past weekend, I decided to play with a few items and see what it would look like, so I started in the sun room because the furniture I have in there is all white. Join me on a tour of the room. I spray painted this little vintage table a couple of weeks ago. using  plain white paint from Wal Mart for $.99.  I then just scuffed it in a few places with a 3M sanding sponge.  I really like it but I may change it some before too long.  Notice the runner on the table.  I found it while unpacking some of my MIL's things over the weekend.  It has a girl in a sun bonnet crocheted on each end.  I'll do a close up of it in a future post.  It is so pretty and must be quite old as it has several small holes in it.  The cloche display is made from a little plate I bought for a few cents at the Ha...

Making changes

Over the weekend I made a few changes around the house.  I "re-worked" the centerpiece arrangement I had in the breakfast nook.  I used the same items, but arranged them on a tray, added an old bowl and a candle.  I still kept the rooster because I just think he's a cutie. My original arrangement was like this. Now it looks like this: Sometimes the smallest change is so refreshing. Hope you all enjoy your week. I am linking to Marty for her  Tabletop Tuesday Party.  I hope you can drop in and enjoy the scenery. Marty,  thanks again for hosting this wonderful party!

What $3.00 Will Buy

I went to a thrift shop on my lunch hour yesterday and spent all of $3.00. Bought some of my favorites.  Beautiful home decor books.  I have quite a collection and have paid fairly hefty prices for some of them.  But I got all of these for a total of $3.00. Debbie Travis' Painted House.   Wonderful how-to instructions for all types of painting techniques.  This one is a magazine, BHG 100 Garden Style Decorating Ideas. 2nd Printing, "Back by popular demand".  You know it's good! Welcome Home, The Best of Today's Creative Home Arts. Has some great ideas and instructions for decorating and crafting. Southern Living at Home's Nell Hill's Style at Home, Mary Carol Garrity, One of my all-time favorites.  I already have this one that I paid a rather high price for, but I plan to use this one as a gift. Don't you just love it when you find these books at a great price! Join me at the party at Thrifty Thursday @ Tales from Bloggeritaville and At J...

A New Vignette

I've really been in the mood to change things this week.  I love the bombay chest in my family room and love to change the vignette a lot.  I've had it decorated for Valentines Day but today, I moved some of those things to another display on a book case and came up with this for the chest.  I am enjoying the look of it. This is the Valentine's vignette.  I know Valentine's isn't here yet and I should probably have left it til then, but I just couldn't.  I kept some of the items but this is how it looks now.   This is a picture I printed from the computer and framed.  I've had the frame and mat for about 12 years and it really looks good with the picture.  The burgundy colors blend with the frame and mat.  The picture is of a donkey pulling a wagon of feed sacks.  I just thought it was so pretty. Sometimes just the smallest change makes so much difference.  Do you like to change things around?   These are the partie...

Rose's Gift

A few weeks ago, Rose from the blog  Second Hand Rose,   notified me by mistake that I had won her giveaway.  When we realized the error, she insisted that she was going to send me a consolation prize.  I told her it was not a problem and that she really did not need to do that, but being the sweetie that she is, she did it anyway. Today the precious gift arrived.  It is the most delicate and lovely little pin dish from her personal collection.  See how pretty it looks. Isn't it so lovely?  The pastel flowers and gold trim are just beautiful.  Thank you Rose.  I treasure this little pretty already and have moved it to the top of the display shelf, since I have a little 4 year old granddaughter who would love to "hold" it.  I remembered a tiny easel I had and it works perfectly to hold this sweet little gift. Rose you are a sweetheart and thank you again for the lovely gift.  I will always treasure it!

Thrifty Little Silver Plate

The other day I visited a thrift store I had been wanting to go to!  BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!! Nothing!!! Then I stopped by the Habitat Restore.  There was a green glass covered candy dish just like a red one I have.  It was $25.00!!!  They had the paper showing where one sold on EBay for $50.00.  I really wanted it to go with my red one, but that is more than I wanted to pay, so I left without it. Next I stopped at an old mill building where lots of vendors have antique booths.  The majority of the stuff there was over priced as well, but it was a lot of fun to go through the booths.  I did spend $4.50 there.  This is what I bought. Tarnished little silver dish Once it was clean I could read            LBC, Sixth Grade, 1954  Reed and Barton   It cleaned up pretty well.  I wonder who owned it, Sixth Grade, why would it have that engraved?  Was it a gift for finishin...

Treasures in White

Lately I've been on a "white" kick!  I will join in the party at Kathleen's today and show you some of the things I have found or "fixed" lately.  I painted this once gold candle stick white. The napkin rings and milk glass dish were GW finds. White dishes and white placemats in a valentine table setting.  Just brought this table into the sunroom today.  It was dark brown and all scratched but 3 coats of white spray paint made a big difference.  The bowl and pitcher belonged to my husband.  The rabbit was bought at a consignment shop a couple of years ago.   BTW, does anyone know the correct name for the table above?  I bought it at an antique store.  The milk glass vase was found in an antique shop this past Sunday.  Got it for $2.50, half price on everything in that booth!  I think it is so pretty!  I'm sure everyone recognizes the DT birds painted white.  I will post about the silver dish soon.  I fo...
