We Need A Little Christmas Now

I have been away from home and blogland for an entire week.  We have been working on our home in South Georgia and I was too busy to blog.  I'm back home now, although hubby is still there, and I decided to do just a little Christmas decorating this evening.  So far, I've started on the dining room table and have done a couple of side tables.  I hope to do more tomorrow.
 
I bought this little plate today at a thrift shop for fifty cents.  It's Canterbury, Royal Daulton, England.  The floral is a Kirkland's find from some time ago, the candle holder came from Sweet Tea Consignment Shop, and the angels and baby Jesus is a gift from my daughter and grandson from about 8 or 9 years ago.  I think this makes a nice Christmas vignette.

This runner was purchased at Dollar General for $5.00.  It is about 6 ft long.



 

I found this cross last week at Michael's for $6.00 on clearance.  It had been $14.99.
 
Napkins, 2/$3.50 at Walmart.

This nativity was purchased at Cracker Barrell about 9 years ago, Dollar Tree bird, painted porcelain white, framed artwork from a former neighbor.  She cut it out by hand.  Very delicate work.  The table cloth was a small remnant from Walmart's bargain bin a couple of years ago for I think about $1.00.

Again, I'm just getting started, so I will be tweaking the dining room table, and still have to put up the tree.  I'll share the wreaths on the doors with you in another post.  Let's all have a Merry Christmas, and remember the reason we celebrate.  As my granddaughter (4) told me this afternoon, "It's God's birthday".  So sweet!

    Your Daulton plate is beautiful! I love the runner too. Your neighbor is very talented, what a truly stunning gift :o)
    Thanks for popping by and leaving such nice comments. I'm afraid I don't decorate for Christmas until the weekend before, and it's all down again before twelfth night as much as I love the process it drives me mad after a week! Just call me Scrooge LOL!

Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project.  I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow.  First, I found an old pillow I no longer use.  I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it.  I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers.  I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night.  The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion.  I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...

What's in the Hutch?

Yesterday I awoke in the mood to do some "deep" cleaning.  First on my list was to dust inside the china cabinet in the dining room.  Can you believe how much dust can get into a closed cabinet.  Really, how does that happen?  My cabinet has glass shelves and they were hazy with dust.  This is a rather tedious job because I not only have china inside, I have all kinds of little "pretties" stored there too.  It's one of the first things you see upon entry into our home, so I really should do this more often.  I want show you the before, sufficeth to say, it had been a while since I had tackled this chore.  Here are some photos showing the "after".
