Making Three Different Wreaths

My daughter asked if I would make her a new Christmas wreath and sent me a Pinterest photo of something similar.  She wanted red/white buffalo checked ribbon (which wasn't found in 3 stores), she wanted cotton bolls, couldn't find those either.  But with lots of improvising and a few hot glue burns I finally figured out what to do.

Here is the finished wreath, then I will tell you how I did it!

(here it is laying on the edge of my table, so you can see the chairs, etc.)  I edited the background out but that photo looked worse so it is what it is!

Supplies:
grapevine wreath, 4.99 (Wal Mart)
berries 3 stems, Michael's 2.98 each (minus discount)
1 roll plain red ribbon, 1 red ribbon with snowflakes, one with peppermint stripe on edge, a scrap of burlap type red/white from an old wreath of hers, cotton from a large roll like you would use to stuff a pillow
a large pine cone
florist wire
glue gun/glue

I guess the total for this is around $15.

It's hard to tell in the photo, but the wreath contains, ribbon, berries, and DIY cotton bolls I made.

First, I cut the stems from the berries to use as stems for the cotton bolls.  I pulled 3 large pieces from the cotton stuffing, and shaped them into balls. I pulled the largest pieces from the bottom of a huge pine cone I had, and glued to the bottom of each boll of cotton, after gluing the stem inside the cotton.  In person they look really realistic.  I made smaller bows, and cut strips of ribbon for the bow.  Everything is wired on with florist wire.  I glued some small gold pine cones in the center of the bow arrangement.

I wake up around 4 AM every morning, much to my dismay, so this is what I did while I waited for sunrise!

I also finished a wreath for my 11 year old granddaughter's door to her room.

Hers is a mesh wreath with some of the red/white burlap scraps run through it, green gift packages, and a bow, with a crocheted snowman that a friend made for me many years ago.  I will try to get photos that show up better before posting this.  Total here:  $0

During Thanksgiving, my grandson and his wife were here, and I had found a huge lighted green wreath at Wal Mart.  It had 3 stems with red berries attached and that was all that was on it.  I went into my stash and made it pretty for them to take home and use.  I'll try to get a photo of it too.  Total on this $2.95!

I had them send me a photo of the wreath.  (Below)

Blogging Again From My Mountain Cottage, Shadymont

After a much needed rest, I'm back with a new blog name and a few slight changes, like the template, and the content will vary and not always be home decor, though that is my niche, and I will continue to have it frequently.  But I want to use my blog to also give those who may read it a little encouragement into the Goodness of God. Some of the fog from my depression is lifting now and I'm starting to feel better.  I've had a really hard time, personally, for the last seven months, and the divorce still isn't final.  I think it is nearing being final now though, and I hope I will continue to get clarity from this fog. I have a story to tell regarding other matters, but I still am not able to talk  about it quite yet.  But when I say I've been through the fire, or maybe the pits of hell, just believe me.  I now understand the meaning of Never say "Never"!  Things can happen to us when we are vulernable that we think would never  happen.  ...

Linens & Things

I love finding tablecloths, runners, napkins, and other linens when I am out thrifting. Whether it be at consignment shops, GW, or yard sales, I will usually snap up a pretty linen if it doesn't have a lot of stains.  I will show you some of my favorites. I found several pieces embroideried with this design at a favorite consignment shop. This blue runner (reversible to stripes), found on consignment. This is one of the nicer quality tablecloths I have found, $4.00 at a thrift store. This cloth was around $10.00 on consignment. This runner is also reversible to polka dots, and was a consignment find. This pink and white gingham is perfect in the sun room, and is a consignment find also. This is the most valuable table cloth I have found, and it was $2.00 at a nearby yard sale.  It is a vintage Wielunder.  They sell on ebay for 30 - 90 dollars.  Mine is in pristine condition! Christmas tablecloth, consignment sale. ...

Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project.  I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow.  First, I found an old pillow I no longer use.  I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it.  I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers.  I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night.  The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion.  I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...
