Updating Old Tables & Lamps

I've been busy for a couple of days making some changes to some of my small tables and lamps.  Both are easy DIY projects that don't take very long, and you get immediate results.

One night last week, I came across this scrap of cloth in green and rust that I had left over from recovering Grandmother Cherri's old antique rocker.  I decided it was probably just enough fabric to cover the lamp shade on a lamp in the master.

This was a total "no-sew" project.  I cut a pattern from cardboard for the shade, then cut 4 pieces.  I pinned the 4 pieces on and then with the strips I had left, I glued those on to the area where each of the 4 panels met.

I used left over acrylic craft paint in Antique Copper to paint the lamp.

I repainted the table as well.  It belonged to my grandmother and has been every color imaginable.  It was one of my first chalk paint projects and I used dark wax on it.

Most recently it was a beige color with grain sack stripes.  Now it's Wythe Blue, also a left over paint.

I use the area under the table to store my bipap supplies, distilled water, etc.  So I took this piece of fabric and hemmed all the way around the fabric, then hung to the outside edge of the table.  This was the shortest tension rod I could find, and it was too long for the area under the table, where I wanted it to be.  I happened to have the rod holders in a "junk" drawer, so I "made it work".

I found this cute sign at Dollar General, and hung it above the table and lamp.

I used the same Wythe Blue paint to give this table a little update.

There isn't a lot of difference in the color of the paint, but the drawer front is now painted as well.  The original blue was Annie Sloan chalk paint in French blue.

None of these projects took long at all, and all were updated with supplies I already had on hand.

What have you updated recently?

Blogging Again From My Mountain Cottage, Shadymont

After a much needed rest, I'm back with a new blog name and a few slight changes, like the template, and the content will vary and not always be home decor, though that is my niche, and I will continue to have it frequently.  But I want to use my blog to also give those who may read it a little encouragement into the Goodness of God. Some of the fog from my depression is lifting now and I'm starting to feel better.  I've had a really hard time, personally, for the last seven months, and the divorce still isn't final.  I think it is nearing being final now though, and I hope I will continue to get clarity from this fog. I have a story to tell regarding other matters, but I still am not able to talk  about it quite yet.  But when I say I've been through the fire, or maybe the pits of hell, just believe me.  I now understand the meaning of Never say "Never"!  Things can happen to us when we are vulernable that we think would never  happen.  ...

Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project.  I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow.  First, I found an old pillow I no longer use.  I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it.  I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers.  I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night.  The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion.  I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...

Bar Stools Makeover

I'm still receiving therapy by keeping my hands busy, plus today I ran quite a few errands.  It's been a crying day for me today.  Just so much to worry about.  It seems like sometimes everything is just messed up, and there's nothing we can do to fix any of it.   Night before last, I painted the bar stools.  I've had them since 2000, and they were nice, but I was just in the mood to paint them!!  The form of the stools had a textured bronze color, the seats were beige with the fleur de lis design, and the wood across the back was brown.  Well, needless to say, they got their own coat of chalk paint in white, the seats covered in blue and white, and the boards across the back are blue.  I have the fabric to make matching placemats and napkins, but today was not the day to try to sew, for me.  I'm just too nervous.  In fact, I didn't do anything creative today except switch out the curtains in the powder room that I only made and p...
