Simple Project

Recently, I came upon lots of small glass items at an out-of-town Good Will.  They were priced around 55c to 77c and a couple were 99c.  It was on a Tuesday, so I got 25% off anyway. I found small glass pedestals, small glass plates, white plates, candle holders, etc.  So I got out the Elmer's Glue All because my Gorilla Glue had hardened, and created these items.

These are great on your dressing table to hold jewelry or polish.

Made from 2 identical white candle holders one turned upright, and one upside down, with a floral bowl glued on as the tray.

2 candle sticks, a plate, and a small bowl with a peacock.

2 candle holders, a white plate, and a glass dish

a Glass pedestal, a dish, a turquoise candleholde
a tall candle stick, a short pedestal dish, and a vase

I found all these at the same store and couldn't wait to get home to see what I could do.  I used every piece, and only used glue to adhere them.  They make nice places to put your jewelry, place one in your guest bath or bedroom for their use. Some place them in their yard for bird feeders.

When you are thrifting, it's fun to find these pretty pieces and see what you can make from them.  The Elmer's Glue All worked well.  Try this if you already have lots of little chipped bowls, and candlesticks.  These candlesticks can be purchased for a dollar all the time at the Dollar Tree.

Thrifty Bookcase Makeover

About a year ago, I was working on a photo gallery area at the lake home. There is an area about 7x7 between the living room, and the hall bath. I bought a really inexpensive ($20.00) bookcase to use there to hold family photos. I hurriedly placed photos on it, and didn't think much about it.   The last time we were at the lake, I was sitting there looking at how badly it looked, wondering what I could do to spruce it up a little.  It had all colors/types of picture frames -red, pink floral, wood, brass, you name it!   I remembered seeing adhesive shelf liner at the Dollar General the day before.  So I made a quick trip back there, and bought one 9 ft. roll for less than $3.00.  I know this is not an original idea and has been done by lots of people, but I wanted to show you anyway.   First, I emptied out all the photos, pulled out the shelves, measured, and cut the paper to fit inside the bookcase.  I also took all the photos out of the frames and w...

Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project.  I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow.  First, I found an old pillow I no longer use.  I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it.  I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers.  I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night.  The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion.  I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...
