Mini Good Will Haul

I think I've said before that the Good Will here in S. GA, is not like ours in N. Georgia.  To begin with, it's small, and the prices are somewhat higher on most items.  They are more like a salvage store because they will have large quantities of certain items, like ladies sandals. They had some that were really cute, new, and for $13.  They had a whole rack of non-stick pans, still with the packaging on the front.  They were $12.99.  It's just quite different. The visit before this week was a really good one.  I found some wonderful bowls, a planter, a pretty sham.  This week I bought another sham, and a hobnail pitcher.  I think it is a syrup pitcher.  It's only 5" tall and has the knobs and bars.

pillow sham (1.99)  I'll show you where it landed in another post.

This belonged to my MIL.
S/P shakers are vintage

The plates are Currier & Ives, The Old Grist Mill

If anyone knows what the name of the white vase above is, please let me know in the comments.  We found it in one of the storage sheds.

I love having vintage items in this hutch.  Cookbooks go years back, and the Southern Living books on the left are from the 80's.  They all belonged to my MIL.

I painted the hutch some time ago, and we are enjoying the change.

So only 2 items from GW this time, but there wasn't lots of choice.

On another note, I've posted about clearing out some of my decorations stored in bins in the basement.  I'm happy to tell you I've emptied 6 bins.(I had 23 bins). There is a huge shelving unit that has lots of stuff that can go too.   I found it hard to purge Christmas decor, but by the time I got to them, I was tired. So I'll go through them another day.  I plan to purge lots of table linens as well.  I love table cloths and runners, and have so many that I need to really let some go.  I'm planning a yard sale when I'm through purging.  Prices will be low, because I want it gone!!

Blogging Again From My Mountain Cottage, Shadymont

After a much needed rest, I'm back with a new blog name and a few slight changes, like the template, and the content will vary and not always be home decor, though that is my niche, and I will continue to have it frequently.  But I want to use my blog to also give those who may read it a little encouragement into the Goodness of God. Some of the fog from my depression is lifting now and I'm starting to feel better.  I've had a really hard time, personally, for the last seven months, and the divorce still isn't final.  I think it is nearing being final now though, and I hope I will continue to get clarity from this fog. I have a story to tell regarding other matters, but I still am not able to talk  about it quite yet.  But when I say I've been through the fire, or maybe the pits of hell, just believe me.  I now understand the meaning of Never say "Never"!  Things can happen to us when we are vulernable that we think would never  happen.  ...

Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project.  I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow.  First, I found an old pillow I no longer use.  I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it.  I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers.  I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night.  The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion.  I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...

Bar Stools Makeover

I'm still receiving therapy by keeping my hands busy, plus today I ran quite a few errands.  It's been a crying day for me today.  Just so much to worry about.  It seems like sometimes everything is just messed up, and there's nothing we can do to fix any of it.   Night before last, I painted the bar stools.  I've had them since 2000, and they were nice, but I was just in the mood to paint them!!  The form of the stools had a textured bronze color, the seats were beige with the fleur de lis design, and the wood across the back was brown.  Well, needless to say, they got their own coat of chalk paint in white, the seats covered in blue and white, and the boards across the back are blue.  I have the fabric to make matching placemats and napkins, but today was not the day to try to sew, for me.  I'm just too nervous.  In fact, I didn't do anything creative today except switch out the curtains in the powder room that I only made and p...
