Thrifty Treasures from Good Will

You all know how thrift stores and Good Will sometimes have great items, and often, not so much!  I was in Good Will shortly after Christmas, and ran up on a wonderful bargain.  Are you familiar with Thirty One brand bags?  They are rather expensive, and in fact, that's why I have never bought them. That day, I started my search on the miscellaneous aisle where you find all kinds of items, and on the bottom shelf sat this wonderful big bag that looked like brand new.  There was glitter in the bottom, so I think someone might have donated Christmas decor, and probably did not mean for the bag to be donated.

My Christmas dishes fit in perfectly.
$2.52  (retails on their website from $50. - $60.)

In addition to that, I found 2 candle holders that match my Christmas dishes.  They were a total of $2.42.  They sell at Replacements for $21.99 each.  The photo below is from Replacements.  My candle holders are already packed away until next Christmas.

So all this for $4.94, plus tax, with a retail value of around $100.00!  I call these great finds!

Thrifty Bookcase Makeover

About a year ago, I was working on a photo gallery area at the lake home. There is an area about 7x7 between the living room, and the hall bath. I bought a really inexpensive ($20.00) bookcase to use there to hold family photos. I hurriedly placed photos on it, and didn't think much about it.   The last time we were at the lake, I was sitting there looking at how badly it looked, wondering what I could do to spruce it up a little.  It had all colors/types of picture frames -red, pink floral, wood, brass, you name it!   I remembered seeing adhesive shelf liner at the Dollar General the day before.  So I made a quick trip back there, and bought one 9 ft. roll for less than $3.00.  I know this is not an original idea and has been done by lots of people, but I wanted to show you anyway.   First, I emptied out all the photos, pulled out the shelves, measured, and cut the paper to fit inside the bookcase.  I also took all the photos out of the frames and w...

Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project.  I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow.  First, I found an old pillow I no longer use.  I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it.  I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers.  I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night.  The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion.  I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...
