Simple Decor for New Year

I hope 2016 has been good for you and your family, and wish you the best throughout the new year.

Now that Christmas is past, and that decor is put away for another year, it is time to decide how to would decorate for the Winter season.

Recently, I've shared some of the Fall and Christmas items I have enjoyed from Oriental Trading Company.

I will continue to use some of the items I was gifted in my winter look, like these white lanterns.  I placed them on the sofa table and added a touch of sparkle by using the gold and silver curling ribbon also from Oriental Trading Company. Their rolls contain 500 yards of ribbon for $4.29.   I think this is an easy way to make the lanterns festive for upcoming parties.

Another way to use the curling ribbon for a bit of sparkle is like I've used it in the china cabinet. Simply curl pieces of ribbon and drop into crystal for a festive touch if you are having guests for New Year's Eve.

I will continue to use these lovely throws on the sofa and love seat for an easy, casual look and the coziness they offer on a cool evening.
I received both these throws from Oriental Trading.  They are a nice size at 50 x 60, and are made of soft fleece.

They add so much coziness to the rooms.

These throws, ribbon and lanterns all came from Oriental Trading Center.  They have a unique variety of items, and guarantee 110% lowest price! Click on the links and see what you can find.

Wishing you and your family a Happy New Year!!!

Blogging Again From My Mountain Cottage, Shadymont

After a much needed rest, I'm back with a new blog name and a few slight changes, like the template, and the content will vary and not always be home decor, though that is my niche, and I will continue to have it frequently.  But I want to use my blog to also give those who may read it a little encouragement into the Goodness of God. Some of the fog from my depression is lifting now and I'm starting to feel better.  I've had a really hard time, personally, for the last seven months, and the divorce still isn't final.  I think it is nearing being final now though, and I hope I will continue to get clarity from this fog. I have a story to tell regarding other matters, but I still am not able to talk  about it quite yet.  But when I say I've been through the fire, or maybe the pits of hell, just believe me.  I now understand the meaning of Never say "Never"!  Things can happen to us when we are vulernable that we think would never  happen.  ...

Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project.  I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow.  First, I found an old pillow I no longer use.  I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it.  I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers.  I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night.  The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion.  I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...

Bar Stools Makeover

I'm still receiving therapy by keeping my hands busy, plus today I ran quite a few errands.  It's been a crying day for me today.  Just so much to worry about.  It seems like sometimes everything is just messed up, and there's nothing we can do to fix any of it.   Night before last, I painted the bar stools.  I've had them since 2000, and they were nice, but I was just in the mood to paint them!!  The form of the stools had a textured bronze color, the seats were beige with the fleur de lis design, and the wood across the back was brown.  Well, needless to say, they got their own coat of chalk paint in white, the seats covered in blue and white, and the boards across the back are blue.  I have the fabric to make matching placemats and napkins, but today was not the day to try to sew, for me.  I'm just too nervous.  In fact, I didn't do anything creative today except switch out the curtains in the powder room that I only made and p...
