Using a Sofa Table

I know that having a sofa table in this area and the hall tree being in such close proximity, might break all kinds of design rules, but so be it.

When we bought the drop front desk it took the spot where this table/desk once sat.

This desk took the place of the table, and the gallery wall is no more.

I moved the table to the sun room for a few months, but it blocked the doors into our bedroom from the sunroom, so I brought it into the front hallway, and placed it behind the sofa.

I kinda like it here, and it keeps the entire back of the sofa from being the focal point when you enter the room.

It also provides a spot for a little red and green......a nod to Christmas, which is now, just days away.....

Wanna know where this gorgeous lantern is from?  Oriental Trading.  It is one of the items gifted to me recently for a sponsored post.  Gotta love the perks of blogging, right?  It is really well made, and you should hurry and order if you want one.  Their website for Christmas items is here.

BTW, I'm loving the cleaner lines in my family room now with the current slipcovers.
Everything else seen here,  is Good Will or consignment finds, and the car will be getting a Christmas tree on top soon.  :)

I'm trying to decide how I want to decorate for Christmas.  I'm hoping I can keep it somewhat minimal.  We shall see!

Thrifty Bookcase Makeover

About a year ago, I was working on a photo gallery area at the lake home. There is an area about 7x7 between the living room, and the hall bath. I bought a really inexpensive ($20.00) bookcase to use there to hold family photos. I hurriedly placed photos on it, and didn't think much about it.   The last time we were at the lake, I was sitting there looking at how badly it looked, wondering what I could do to spruce it up a little.  It had all colors/types of picture frames -red, pink floral, wood, brass, you name it!   I remembered seeing adhesive shelf liner at the Dollar General the day before.  So I made a quick trip back there, and bought one 9 ft. roll for less than $3.00.  I know this is not an original idea and has been done by lots of people, but I wanted to show you anyway.   First, I emptied out all the photos, pulled out the shelves, measured, and cut the paper to fit inside the bookcase.  I also took all the photos out of the frames and w...

Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project.  I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow.  First, I found an old pillow I no longer use.  I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it.  I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers.  I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night.  The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion.  I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...
