New Slipcovers for the Family Room

I've written before about the slipcovers in my family room, and that I'm using them because I'm so tired of the floral design of my sofa and love seat.  But I'm even more frugal than I am tired of the design.  I've made slipcovers, but am not a pro at it, and my olden bones don't like me crawling around on the floor measuring and pinning, and all that, so I splurged a little and got new covers more to my liking than the ones I've been using.

I gave more for these than I wanted to, but I wanted something with separate cushion covers, and when you buy those, you've got to spend a little more.

Here is the looks of the sofa and love seat over the past few months.

(Reminder I'm using what I have and not purchasing new furniture right now).

Below with tan stretchy slipcovers that I've had a long time:

Problem with the tan covers, I was constantly tucking and straightening, every time someone sits on the furniture, it's to do over and over again.  So, I went shopping for new slipcovers.

The new gray covers:

This is a more streamlined look.  I love that this cover fits around the bottom, and pushes the skirt underneath the seat.

These are Surefit™ covers, but I bought them at Bed, Bath, & Beyond ™ so if I didn't like them I could easily take them back, and not have to wait on the snail mail system. They are suede, and were easy enough to adjust to fit my furniture.  Having the cushions covered separately, keeps it much neater looking in the room.  The other color was a deep, deep chocolate brown, which might have matched things a little better, but my husband doesn't like brown, so I bought the gray.  Another feature of these covers is that the cushion covers work for either box cushions or "T" cushions.

These 4 throw pillows were gifted to me by Oriental Trading for doing a sponsored post, and they work perfectly with the gray covers and for the season.

I'm calling these slip covers an early Christmas gift to myself!!   I think I will thoroughly enjoy these!

Oh, on another note, I am tired of the orange and rust colors in my house, so I gathered the fall decor up and put it back in storage.   I'm taking a week or so of rest before I decorate for Christmas, then I hope I can limit the amount of decorating I do.  I told my husband to not allow me to keep bringing stuff up from the basement.  I plan to do a simple small tree, the mantel, and set up a Christmas village.

I changed the mantel from the fall look to this for now.

Gone are the orange colors and pumpkins.

In their place, crystal and blue/white jars.
A brief quiet respite before the Christmas decor.

Blogging Again From My Mountain Cottage, Shadymont

After a much needed rest, I'm back with a new blog name and a few slight changes, like the template, and the content will vary and not always be home decor, though that is my niche, and I will continue to have it frequently.  But I want to use my blog to also give those who may read it a little encouragement into the Goodness of God. Some of the fog from my depression is lifting now and I'm starting to feel better.  I've had a really hard time, personally, for the last seven months, and the divorce still isn't final.  I think it is nearing being final now though, and I hope I will continue to get clarity from this fog. I have a story to tell regarding other matters, but I still am not able to talk  about it quite yet.  But when I say I've been through the fire, or maybe the pits of hell, just believe me.  I now understand the meaning of Never say "Never"!  Things can happen to us when we are vulernable that we think would never  happen.  ...

Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project.  I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow.  First, I found an old pillow I no longer use.  I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it.  I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers.  I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night.  The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion.  I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...

Bar Stools Makeover

I'm still receiving therapy by keeping my hands busy, plus today I ran quite a few errands.  It's been a crying day for me today.  Just so much to worry about.  It seems like sometimes everything is just messed up, and there's nothing we can do to fix any of it.   Night before last, I painted the bar stools.  I've had them since 2000, and they were nice, but I was just in the mood to paint them!!  The form of the stools had a textured bronze color, the seats were beige with the fleur de lis design, and the wood across the back was brown.  Well, needless to say, they got their own coat of chalk paint in white, the seats covered in blue and white, and the boards across the back are blue.  I have the fabric to make matching placemats and napkins, but today was not the day to try to sew, for me.  I'm just too nervous.  In fact, I didn't do anything creative today except switch out the curtains in the powder room that I only made and p...
