Mums for the Porch

We were at the lake home this past weekend, and brought this wonderful piece home with us. I don't know what you would call this, but it had sat out in the yard there for probably 15 years or more. We had mentioned bringing it home with us before, but just hadn't done it. I bought spray paint and gave it a good paint job, and we decided to place it on the porch for right now.

It has hooks for 8 baskets, but since we were placing it in this spot, I only hung 3 baskets on it.

I think it is so nice.

Hopefully we can enjoy these a little longer since they are not out in the open.

When they are spent, I think I'll get baskets of pansies to last through the winter months.

I love the beaded hangers. These were purchased at Lowe's.

Have you seen a piece with this many hooks? I'm glad we brought it home with us so we can enjoy it.

What's in the Hutch?

Yesterday I awoke in the mood to do some "deep" cleaning. First on my list was to dust inside the china cabinet in the dining room. Can you believe how much dust can get into a closed cabinet. Really, how does that happen? My cabinet has glass shelves and they were hazy with dust. This is a rather tedious job because I not only have china inside, I have all kinds of little "pretties" stored there too. It's one of the first things you see upon entry into our home, so I really should do this more often. I want show you the before, sufficeth to say, it had been a while since I had tackled this chore. Linens & Things

I love finding tablecloths, runners, napkins, and other linens when I am out thrifting. Whether it be at consignment shops, GW, or yard sales, I will usually snap up a pretty linen if it doesn't have a lot of stains. I will show you some of my favorites. I found several pieces embroideried with this design at a favorite consignment shop. This blue runner (reversible to stripes), found on consignment. This is one of the nicer quality tablecloths I have found, $4.00 at a thrift store. This cloth was around $10.00 on consignment. This runner is also reversible to polka dots, and was a consignment find. This pink and white gingham is perfect in the sun room, and is a consignment find also. This is the most valuable table cloth I have found, and it was $2.00 at a nearby yard sale. It is a vintage Wielunder. They sell on ebay for 30 - 90 dollars. Mine is in pristine condition! Table for Two

This is what the table in the sun room looked like yesterday. I was organizing my napkins, runners, etc., and came across the red items, so I decided to make the table a totally valentine table and changed out the napkins and plates. :) I also placed a lovely cupids figurine under the dome I made from Habitat items. The windows in this room face the East and look out on to a view of gentle rolling hills. The morning sun streams in and warms the room. I have had this little cupids piece for a very long time. I think I got it at Eckerd Drugs years ago. It's not even Eckerd Drugs anymore. It's now Rite Aid. I think they had cuter things a long time ago than they do now. The flowers in this bouquet are from Dollar Tree, as is the ribbon and garland. I received roses from my husband in the vase a number of years ago. The little red bird nest is an old Christmas decoration. I've probably had it for 25 years or more....
