Cast Iron Wash Pot

This old black wash pot was my mother's. She had many uses for it, and it sat outside under a pine tree for many years. She used it to cook large amounts of food to freeze, and it had been used for things like washing clothes years before.  A fire would be built and the pot was placed on the fire. I'm not sure, but it may have belonged to my grandmother before it came to us.  I'm sure it's at least 100 years old, I know for sure it's 64, because I am, and I remember it always being there.  At any rate, it has set in my basement for a number of years, and I decided it was time to bring it out and enjoy it.  At my old house it hung on a wooden frame and I filled it with flowers in the summer.  My husband helped me get it to the front of the house yesterday, and we filled it with plants-red fountain grass, dianthus, and sweet potato vines. That's lantana in the 2 small concrete pots. It sits in this small area between the front porch and the stoop going into the mud room.

I think it will look really pretty once the plants mature some.  I'm hoping the sweet potato vine will spill over the sides.

This spiky plant sat outside over the winter.  I had no idea it would live, and it looks a little worse for the wear.  I think I will replace the soil and see if that will help.

 I'm still using the spring wreath I made.  I like the yellow with the new door color. 

I've spent a bit of time this week on the bench we made last weekend.


We watched the neighbor's cows graze as we had our coffee on the porch this morning. 
While we were watching, they moved the cattle from the pasture near our place to one farther out.  They made it look so easy, riding their horses and gathering them all together.

Blogging Again From My Mountain Cottage, Shadymont

After a much needed rest, I'm back with a new blog name and a few slight changes, like the template, and the content will vary and not always be home decor, though that is my niche, and I will continue to have it frequently.  But I want to use my blog to also give those who may read it a little encouragement into the Goodness of God. Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project.  I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow.  First, I found an old pillow I no longer use.  I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it.  I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers.  I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night.  The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion.  I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...

What's in the Hutch?

Yesterday I awoke in the mood to do some "deep" cleaning.  First on my list was to dust inside the china cabinet in the dining room.  Can you believe how much dust can get into a closed cabinet.  Really, how does that happen?  My cabinet has glass shelves and they were hazy with dust.  This is a rather tedious job because I not only have china inside, I have all kinds of little "pretties" stored there too.  It's one of the first things you see upon entry into our home, so I really should do this more often.  I want show you the before, sufficeth to say, it had been a while since I had tackled this chore.  Here are some photos showing the "after".
