Good Will Treasure Trove

This time of year is a great time to visit your Good Will. People are purging and organizing, and it is a literal treasure trove.  I spent some time shopping there yesterday, and found some great bargains.  It was Senior Citizen Day, so I got a 25% discount!  Here is what I purchased for a total of $ 27 and change.

This lamp cost around $5.00.

I placed it on my bedside table.

Look at these wonderful pillows.

Equestrian decor is always a welcome find.
The pillow above is green velvet on the reverse.

The pillow above has a different scene on each side.  The lovely mansion on one side, and the Fox Hunt scene on the other.

Both pillows are in the master bedroom for now.  I think they were around $3.00 each.

I couldn't believe I found these Willow Tree angels priced at $1.21 each!  My discount made them $.91 cents each!!

I moved the Willow Tree angels I already had to the bedroom on this shelf, and now have a nice collection.

This canvas landscape was only $3.+ with the discount.
Two pieces of fabric, both over 2 yards for a total of around $2.95!

I added this piece to my Christmas village that I just started collecting.  They had quite a few pieces, but I only bought one.

This is a sweet piece.  It is wood, and hangs with a ribbon.  I think I paid less than a dollar.  One of the doves has a broken tail feather, but it isn't noticeable, and I knew where I would hang it.

I went in looking for piano sheet music, or songbooks, and came out with everything but that!!  I'm trying to renew my ability to play piano.  I haven't practiced on a regular basis for years so I bought a digital piano, and am giving it another shot. I've played for several churches during the years, but have not played for probably 12+ years and am RUSTY!!  So I've added another hobby.

If you are in the thrifting mood, it's time to visit your Good Will!

Blogging Again From My Mountain Cottage, Shadymont

After a much needed rest, I'm back with a new blog name and a few slight changes, like the template, and the content will vary and not always be home decor, though that is my niche, and I will continue to have it frequently.  But I want to use my blog to also give those who may read it a little encouragement into the Goodness of God. Some of the fog from my depression is lifting now and I'm starting to feel better.  I've had a really hard time, personally, for the last seven months, and the divorce still isn't final.  I think it is nearing being final now though, and I hope I will continue to get clarity from this fog. I have a story to tell regarding other matters, but I still am not able to talk  about it quite yet.  But when I say I've been through the fire, or maybe the pits of hell, just believe me.  I now understand the meaning of Never say "Never"!  Things can happen to us when we are vulernable that we think would never  happen.  ...

Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project.  I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow.  First, I found an old pillow I no longer use.  I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it.  I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers.  I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night.  The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion.  I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...

Bar Stools Makeover

I'm still receiving therapy by keeping my hands busy, plus today I ran quite a few errands.  It's been a crying day for me today.  Just so much to worry about.  It seems like sometimes everything is just messed up, and there's nothing we can do to fix any of it.   Night before last, I painted the bar stools.  I've had them since 2000, and they were nice, but I was just in the mood to paint them!!  The form of the stools had a textured bronze color, the seats were beige with the fleur de lis design, and the wood across the back was brown.  Well, needless to say, they got their own coat of chalk paint in white, the seats covered in blue and white, and the boards across the back are blue.  I have the fabric to make matching placemats and napkins, but today was not the day to try to sew, for me.  I'm just too nervous.  In fact, I didn't do anything creative today except switch out the curtains in the powder room that I only made and p...
