Switching Accessories Around

An easy way to get a different look in a room is to change your accessories from one place to another. Creating different vignettes with the same items, just arranged in a different way is fun, and allows you a creative outlet.

We've had rain for over a week, so I've moved things around, but still keeping the fall colors going.  I am thinking about how I want to decorate for Christmas this year and hope to keep it minimal and somewhat tasteful. I can go a little crazy trying to display too much!

I changed the mantel by placing the basket of books with fall colors there.  It was on a side table.

I bought a wire wreath form at the Dollar Tree last week, and made this burlap wreath.  I explained how to make these in this post.  Go there for instructions if you want to make one.  I have about $12.00 in this one.  I bought 2 large rolls of burlap ribbon at half price at Hobby Lobby, and the flower was around $2, the wreath form only $1.00.

I found this sweet sign at the Hen's Nest Consignment, and hung it from this shutter.

It was a quick change here, bu placing the wood pumpkin and a fall stem at this end of the mantel.

I found this piece of fabric in my stash and trimmed it with pinking shears, ironed it and laid it underneath the basket of books.

Also in the living room, I switched accessories on this table.

This shows the gallery wall and the top of the table where I switched accessories.  I changed the lampshade from aqua to burgundy for the fall.  I'm on the lookout for pictures to go where the two small ones at the top are.  I want to find some with old houses in them like the two larger ones.  I'm sure I'll run up on something before too long.

Just swapping a few items around freshens up a space. Use what you have and experiment by placeing in different areas in the room until you find a look you like.
(Then, tomorrow, change it again, LIKE I DO!!).  Can anyone say OCD??  I might have a slight tendancy towards it.  :)

Blogging Again From My Mountain Cottage, Shadymont

After a much needed rest, I'm back with a new blog name and a few slight changes, like the template, and the content will vary and not always be home decor, though that is my niche, and I will continue to have it frequently.  But I want to use my blog to also give those who may read it a little encouragement into the Goodness of God. Some of the fog from my depression is lifting now and I'm starting to feel better.  I've had a really hard time, personally, for the last seven months, and the divorce still isn't final.  I think it is nearing being final now though, and I hope I will continue to get clarity from this fog. I have a story to tell regarding other matters, but I still am not able to talk  about it quite yet.  But when I say I've been through the fire, or maybe the pits of hell, just believe me.  I now understand the meaning of Never say "Never"!  Things can happen to us when we are vulernable that we think would never  happen.  ...

Linens & Things

I love finding tablecloths, runners, napkins, and other linens when I am out thrifting. Whether it be at consignment shops, GW, or yard sales, I will usually snap up a pretty linen if it doesn't have a lot of stains.  I will show you some of my favorites. I found several pieces embroideried with this design at a favorite consignment shop. This blue runner (reversible to stripes), found on consignment. This is one of the nicer quality tablecloths I have found, $4.00 at a thrift store. This cloth was around $10.00 on consignment. This runner is also reversible to polka dots, and was a consignment find. This pink and white gingham is perfect in the sun room, and is a consignment find also. This is the most valuable table cloth I have found, and it was $2.00 at a nearby yard sale.  It is a vintage Wielunder.  They sell on ebay for 30 - 90 dollars.  Mine is in pristine condition! Christmas tablecloth, consignment sale. ...

Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project.  I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow.  First, I found an old pillow I no longer use.  I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it.  I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers.  I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night.  The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion.  I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...
