A Christmas Cupboard

If you've followed my blog for a while, you have seen this pie cupboard that belonged to my grandmother, then my mother. I painted it white a while ago. I didn't want to set the table this year with the Christmas dishes, but wanted to use them somewhere in my decor. I decided to place them in the pie cupboard.

I removed the art above the cupboard, and replaced it with this quilt wall hanging, a gift from my SIL several years ago.

The Christmas dishes were a consignment find for around $20. It's a 6 place setting with a serving bowl, and suger/creamer. I placed holly designed napkins on the shelves. I've had the napkins since the eighties, I guess. The dishes also have a holly design.

The pitcher was found a year or so ago at a consignment shop.

I'm enjoying the cheerfulness of this cupboard in the breakfast nook.

Blogging Again From My Mountain Cottage, Shadymont

After a much needed rest, I'm back with a new blog name and a few slight changes, like the template, and the content will vary and not always be home decor, though that is my niche, and I will continue to have it frequently. But I want to use my blog to also give those who may read it a little encouragement into the Goodness of God. Some of the fog from my depression is lifting now and I'm starting to feel better. I've had a really hard time, personally, for the last seven months, and the divorce still isn't final. I think it is nearing being final now though, and I hope I will continue to get clarity from this fog. I have a story to tell regarding other matters, but I still am not able to talk about it quite yet. But when I say I've been through the fire, or maybe the pits of hell, just believe me. Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project. I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow. First, I found an old pillow I no longer use. I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it. I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers. I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night. The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion. I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...

What's in the Hutch?

Yesterday I awoke in the mood to do some "deep" cleaning. First on my list was to dust inside the china cabinet in the dining room. Can you believe how much dust can get into a closed cabinet. Really, how does that happen? My cabinet has glass shelves and they were hazy with dust. This is a rather tedious job because I not only have china inside, I have all kinds of little "pretties" stored there too. It's one of the first things you see upon entry into our home, so I really should do this more often. I want show you the before, sufficeth to say, it had been a while since I had tackled this chore.
