Entry Table Redesign

This morning, I decided to redesign the entry table.

This is the before.

Too many patterns going on!!  Not at all pleasing to the eye.

First I removed everything that was on the table.

Then I went through some of my thrifty linens I have bought over the last few years at thrift and consignment shops.

I chose the one with the pink tulips.  It has such a bright summery look.  I folded it into a 'runner' size, and draped it over the table.  Then I added items from other rooms, (shopped the house).

This is the OLD table that belonged to my grandmother who passed away about 59 years ago, so it is really old. It was one of my first chalk paint/dark wax projects, and I still like it like this.

By folding the table cloth into a runner, it allows part of the old table to be seen, and gives a cottage look.

I added the small lamp that belonged to my MIL to the table.  I love this lamp wherever I use it.

The lantern/house was bought at Kirkland's with a gift certificate from my daughter.  It was originally green, but a couple of years ago, I painted it white.  It holds a pillar candle.

The tiny hydrangea was a yard sale find for a dime.

I folded the tablecloth so that the striped border would be to the front.  I really like how the border is different from the center of the cloth.

I like this vignette much better than the previous one.

The aqua paper rose at the top of the lamp is a stick-on I found at Michael's in a package of 6 in their $1.50 bins.

This display is much more pleasing to the eye, and gives off a more welcoming, warm vibe.

I think I will use this for a while.  But we will see.  Y'all know I change things all the time.

Proving once again, that you can get a nice display for little to no money.  Nothing here cost me except the dime flower pot, and the table cloth which cost $2.50.  Neat, huh?

Blogging Again From My Mountain Cottage, Shadymont

After a much needed rest, I'm back with a new blog name and a few slight changes, like the template, and the content will vary and not always be home decor, though that is my niche, and I will continue to have it frequently.  But I want to use my blog to also give those who may read it a little encouragement into the Goodness of God. Some of the fog from my depression is lifting now and I'm starting to feel better.  I've had a really hard time, personally, for the last seven months, and the divorce still isn't final.  I think it is nearing being final now though, and I hope I will continue to get clarity from this fog. I have a story to tell regarding other matters, but I still am not able to talk  about it quite yet.  But when I say I've been through the fire, or maybe the pits of hell, just believe me.  I now understand the meaning of Never say "Never"!  Things can happen to us when we are vulernable that we think would never  happen.  ...

Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project.  I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow.  First, I found an old pillow I no longer use.  I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it.  I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers.  I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night.  The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion.  I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...

Bar Stools Makeover

I'm still receiving therapy by keeping my hands busy, plus today I ran quite a few errands.  It's been a crying day for me today.  Just so much to worry about.  It seems like sometimes everything is just messed up, and there's nothing we can do to fix any of it.   Night before last, I painted the bar stools.  I've had them since 2000, and they were nice, but I was just in the mood to paint them!!  The form of the stools had a textured bronze color, the seats were beige with the fleur de lis design, and the wood across the back was brown.  Well, needless to say, they got their own coat of chalk paint in white, the seats covered in blue and white, and the boards across the back are blue.  I have the fabric to make matching placemats and napkins, but today was not the day to try to sew, for me.  I'm just too nervous.  In fact, I didn't do anything creative today except switch out the curtains in the powder room that I only made and p...
