Hey, Lighten Up!!

I have recently added lots of light colors to my decor.  It started gradually as I added white items in bookcases, shelves, etc.


Bought a white quilt for the master bed.


I've added white sheers in the office, master bedroom, dining room, and family room.

I made slipcovers for the sofa and loveseat from dropcloths.
The tablecloth in the dining room is also one I made from dropcloths.

I've painted the pie safe white, also the sofa table!!



I brought lighter colors into the bedroom, family room, and sunroom with fabrics.


All the items in the china cabinet are white.

I changed from black/red/white rooster pictures in the breakfast room to this arrangement.
I like the farmhouse look of the vignette.


I decluttered the tops of the kitchen cabinets.  I literally had every inch of them covered with STUFF!

Now, just a center display.

I made a dropcloth cover for this stool.

I have white and pink for the mantel display.

My home is filled with natural light.  I have large windows, transoms, french doors in almost every room, so there is no shortage of light, but I have to say, I love the light decor, too. It makes everything look larger, and cleaner.  I do need to lighten up the guest room.  It still has lots of brown, so that has to be remedied pronto!  I'm thinking a pastel quilt with light curtains, maybe more sheers!  It just makes for a joyous feeling home. If your home needs light, just lighten up!!  You can do it gradually as I have, and look for bargains in fabric and sheers.  Sheers can be found on EBay, new, for next to nothing!  I got 4 pairs, 84 and 95 inches recently, for under $30.00, including shipping. Changing to lighter colors doesn't have to cost a lot.  Do it on the cheap, and enjoy it.  Then when the whim changes for something else, you haven't sunk a fortune into it, and don't have to feel guilty about changing it again!  :)

What's in the Hutch?

Yesterday I awoke in the mood to do some "deep" cleaning.  First on my list was to dust inside the china cabinet in the dining room.  Can you believe how much dust can get into a closed cabinet.  Really, how does that happen?  My cabinet has glass shelves and they were hazy with dust.  This is a rather tedious job because I not only have china inside, I have all kinds of little "pretties" stored there too.  It's one of the first things you see upon entry into our home, so I really should do this more often.  I want show you the before, sufficeth to say, it had been a while since I had tackled this chore.  Here are some photos showing the "after". Linens & Things

I love finding tablecloths, runners, napkins, and other linens when I am out thrifting. Whether it be at consignment shops, GW, or yard sales, I will usually snap up a pretty linen if it doesn't have a lot of stains.  I will show you some of my favorites. I found several pieces embroideried with this design at a favorite consignment shop. This blue runner (reversible to stripes), found on consignment. This is one of the nicer quality tablecloths I have found, $4.00 at a thrift store. This cloth was around $10.00 on consignment. This runner is also reversible to polka dots, and was a consignment find. This pink and white gingham is perfect in the sun room, and is a consignment find also. This is the most valuable table cloth I have found, and it was $2.00 at a nearby yard sale.  It is a vintage Wielunder.  They sell on ebay for 30 - 90 dollars.  Mine is in pristine condition! Table for Two

 This is what the table in the sun room looked like yesterday.  I was organizing my napkins, runners, etc., and came across the red items, so I decided to make the table a totally valentine table and changed out the napkins and plates.  :)  I also placed a lovely cupids figurine under the dome I made from Habitat items. The windows in this room face the East and look out on to a view of gentle  rolling hills. The morning sun streams in and warms the room.  I have had this little cupids piece for a very long time.  I think I got it at Eckerd Drugs years ago.  It's not even Eckerd Drugs anymore.  It's now Rite Aid. I think they had cuter things a long time ago than they do now. The flowers in this bouquet are from Dollar Tree, as is the ribbon and garland.  I received roses from my husband in the vase a number of years ago.  The little red bird nest is an old Christmas decoration.  I've probably had it for 25 years or more....
