Faux Will Do (Early Spring Décor)

I don't buy many fresh flowers, even though I do love them. I know lots of folks don't use faux flowers in their décor, but I am one who does. I always have. Recently, I have found several bushes for a penny each, and have quite a supply now. I will use some for wreaths, and some for making arrangements for the graves of our parents and other loved ones, but currently, I am displaying some of them in the house. I haven't "arranged" these, and just have them stuck in the containers so they can be removed and used for more permanent arrangements. Some of my favorites are these yellow and white ones. I remembered that my husband had brought a beautiful yellow and white bowl and pitcher when we married. It had been sitting in the guest closet on the top shelf, out of the way. Seeing these gorgeous stems made me want to put them into the pitcher for a Spring looking arrangement. See what you think.

I think this makes a nice arrangement.

The yellow in the table cloth goes perfectly with the pitcher, bowl, and flowers.

These make me long for Spring to get here. I've had a gracious plenty of this cold, icy weather, thank you very much!

I made another smaller arrangement for the ottoman/coffee table in the office. I used this small ginger jar my daughter received for her wedding in 1989, so it has some age on it, and had also been stored out of the way for a long time.

The vase and these flowers have an Asian look. Again, these are just stuck into the container.

They make a nice addition to the vignette in the tray.

Thrifty Bookcase Makeover

About a year ago, I was working on a photo gallery area at the lake home. There is an area about 7x7 between the living room, and the hall bath. I bought a really inexpensive ($20.00) bookcase to use there to hold family photos. I hurriedly placed photos on it, and didn't think much about it. The last time we were at the lake, I was sitting there looking at how badly it looked, wondering what I could do to spruce it up a little. It had all colors/types of picture frames -red, pink floral, wood, brass, you name it! I remembered seeing adhesive shelf liner at the Dollar General the day before. So I made a quick trip back there, and bought one 9 ft. roll for less than $3.00. I know this is not an original idea and has been done by lots of people, but I wanted to show you anyway. Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project. I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow. First, I found an old pillow I no longer use. I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it. I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers. I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night. The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion. I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...
