Decorating A Small Cupboard

I have a small hall cupboard that was built in a nearby shop, that sits in my dining room. It is narrow, and I use it to hold candles, and some of my small lamps, etc. It is always so much fun to decorate, and since it is so small, it provides a quick way to get in a little creativity.

I've been adding a few touches of Spring here and there, trying to hurry the season, I guess. So I will share the current look for the top of the cupboard.

I kept the quilted runner that has been on for a while now. It fits the top perfectly. I placed a bottle I decorated, underneath a cloche, along with a small bible, a strand of pearls belonging to my MIL, a flower, and a small lamb.

Since I am using the Ball jars on the mantel, I redecorated the old blue sewing machine drawer by placing an old thrifted platter, and a small Limoge saucer inside the drawer, then added a jar I painted turquoise, and stuck a peony into it.

Then I placed this (also thrifted) plate on a stand, to blend in with the other items. I stuck to a pink/blue theme for the top of the cupboard, and featured pink flowers on several items.

I can look at this display and know that spring is on its way. Have you found a spot or two for spring décor?

Blogging Again From My Mountain Cottage, Shadymont

After a much needed rest, I'm back with a new blog name and a few slight changes, like the template, and the content will vary and not always be home decor, though that is my niche, and I will continue to have it frequently. But I want to use my blog to also give those who may read it a little encouragement into the Goodness of God. Some of the fog from my depression is lifting now and I'm starting to feel better. I've had a really hard time, personally, for the last seven months, and the divorce still isn't final. I think it is nearing being final now though, and I hope I will continue to get clarity from this fog. I have a story to tell regarding other matters, but I still am not able to talk about it quite yet. But when I say I've been through the fire, or maybe the pits of hell, just believe me. I now understand the meaning of Never say "Never"! Things can happen to us when we are vulernable that we think would never happen. ...

Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project. I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow. First, I found an old pillow I no longer use. I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it. I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers. I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night. The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion. I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...

Bar Stools Makeover

I'm still receiving therapy by keeping my hands busy, plus today I ran quite a few errands. It's been a crying day for me today. Just so much to worry about. It seems like sometimes everything is just messed up, and there's nothing we can do to fix any of it. Night before last, I painted the bar stools. I've had them since 2000, and they were nice, but I was just in the mood to paint them!! The form of the stools had a textured bronze color, the seats were beige with the fleur de lis design, and the wood across the back was brown. Well, needless to say, they got their own coat of chalk paint in white, the seats covered in blue and white, and the boards across the back are blue. I have the fabric to make matching placemats and napkins, but today was not the day to try to sew, for me. I'm just too nervous.
