Some Favorite Vignettes

Often I look back at ways I have decorated in the past, for ideas for the present.  While doing that today, I decided to do a post showcasing some of my favorite vignettes.  Usually, they come together for me fairly effortlessly, but sometimes I need a jog in memory about some of the items I have but haven't used in a while.  I have numerous bins of decorations in the basement, and sometimes I forget what I have.

I love using stacked cake stands, and that is what I did here. The two cupids were purchased years ago from Eckerd Drugs, I believe.  I use these lots.

Here is another cupid used on the old table in the sun room. Looks like I had a theme going.

This a favorite too.  I loved using the old watches that belonged to my husband's father, and of course one of my sewing machine drawers.  I use those all the time.

This vignette sat on an ottoman in the office.

This is a vignette from last summer.  Love this tablecloth.  It will be back in use in the spring.

The vignette above was on the bookcase during the summer. That is one of my paintings in the center.

I did a makeover of this box and enjoyed it for several months as a centerpiece.

We enjoyed the white items in the tray for a long time, and in fact I have brought it back to the coffee table for the winter.

This is one of the fall displays, in the breakfast nook.

This table top only had hints of Christmas décor.

I love the way the lamp light looked on top of the pie safe.  It gave off such a cozy glow.

This is presently on the old door I have standing in the dining room.  I love decorating it for different occasions, or different days, or whenever the notion strikes.

Do you like to go back and revisit previous photos for ideas?

Linens & Things

I love finding tablecloths, runners, napkins, and other linens when I am out thrifting. Whether it be at consignment shops, GW, or yard sales, I will usually snap up a pretty linen if it doesn't have a lot of stains.  I will show you some of my favorites. I found several pieces embroideried with this design at a favorite consignment shop. This blue runner (reversible to stripes), found on consignment. This is one of the nicer quality tablecloths I have found, $4.00 at a thrift store. This cloth was around $10.00 on consignment. This runner is also reversible to polka dots, and was a consignment find. This pink and white gingham is perfect in the sun room, and is a consignment find also. This is the most valuable table cloth I have found, and it was $2.00 at a nearby yard sale.  It is a vintage Wielunder.  They sell on ebay for 30 - 90 dollars.  Mine is in pristine condition! Christmas tablecloth, consignment sale. ...

What's in the Hutch?

Yesterday I awoke in the mood to do some "deep" cleaning.  First on my list was to dust inside the china cabinet in the dining room.  Can you believe how much dust can get into a closed cabinet.  Really, how does that happen?  My cabinet has glass shelves and they were hazy with dust.  This is a rather tedious job because I not only have china inside, I have all kinds of little "pretties" stored there too.  It's one of the first things you see upon entry into our home, so I really should do this more often.  I want show you the before, sufficeth to say, it had been a while since I had tackled this chore.  Here are some photos showing the "after". Here is a collection of vases and crystal pitchers .   These were all gifts except the smallest one in the front and the one to the right of it. China and a consignment shop cake plate.  The china was formerly my MILs. More china . This little fairy lives here with her 2 sisters. They ...

Decorating Slump

I have absolutely had the hardest time deciding on how to decorate the dining room table for Thanksgiving.  I am not satisfied with anything I've done.  I'll show you the latest in a long string of 'tries'. Anyway, this is the latest try.  I bought six of these chargers at Dollar Tree, at $1 each.   I layered with this dinner plate and salad plate purchased from Wal Mart several years ago. I stopped there.  No decision yet on silver, glassware, or placemats/napkins.    I have the drop cloth/burlap runner I made last week on the table. I brought out this lovely cake stand bought at Good Will for $4.99.  It is centered on the runner.  I like the contrast between the leaded glass and the runner.  I placed the arrangement I made a few weeks ago on top of the cake stand. I added the two white candle sticks with white candles, leaf garlands, 2 small ceramic pumpkins around the cake pedestal, and stopped. I have to decide on ...
