Little Changes at the Lake House

We are still at the lake house, and I've been having so much fun. I've done lots of small projects, and moved things here and there.

First off, we rearranged the living room, and I'm liking it so much.  Of course, any kind of change seems to freshen up things.

It's hard to tell much about it in these photos, but we switched the chairs to where the love seat formerly was.  This leaves it much more open toward the kitchen.  The love seat faces the sofa.

I bought this candle holder a couple years ago.  It was pink, and over the winter, it had rusted and faded until it looked horrible.  Saturday, I painted it navy and turquoise.  So it has found a place on the coffee table, rather than outside.   This towel was only $1.00 at Dollar General.  It has turquoise butterflies and flowers, and white bird cages on it.

This is a view from above the candle holder and towel.

I've had this bronze colored sign for a long time.  Yesterday, I decided to paint it!  I did so with acrylic paints, then scuffed it up a little with a sanding block.  It shows up so much better on the  wall now!

Another little paint project was to give this little bench a face lift.

It works well to hold this photo of my husband, his brother, and mother.

Does this picture look familiar????

It should!  The large image of it hangs in my office at home!!  I found the small one at Dollar General for $8.00, and couldn't resist it.  It goes well in the twin guest room.

Here's the large one in the office.

Another glimps of the master!

I made another blue wreath for the door here at the lake.  The flowers are white, with some blue colored berries instead of the yellow like at home.

I removed the picture in this frame from the barn in snow, and am using this lovely garden scene for the summer.

I found the sweetest green table at DG, and put it on the porch with a faux plant.

This wooden basket of wooden tulips got a face lift.  It had faded really bad, so I got the acrylic paints out and spruced it up too.

This wood 'pineapple' candle holder got painted white, with some distressing.

I placed a few of the antique photos I found on the dresser in the twin guest room, and also worked a little on the wall gallery I've started of my husband's family.

Nothing big, just small changes, but it makes everything feel fresher!

Do you like doing small projects?

Blogging Again From My Mountain Cottage, Shadymont

After a much needed rest, I'm back with a new blog name and a few slight changes, like the template, and the content will vary and not always be home decor, though that is my niche, and I will continue to have it frequently.  But I want to use my blog to also give those who may read it a little encouragement into the Goodness of God. Some of the fog from my depression is lifting now and I'm starting to feel better.  I've had a really hard time, personally, for the last seven months, and the divorce still isn't final.  I think it is nearing being final now though, and I hope I will continue to get clarity from this fog. I have a story to tell regarding other matters, but I still am not able to talk  about it quite yet.  But when I say I've been through the fire, or maybe the pits of hell, just believe me.  I now understand the meaning of Never say "Never"!  Things can happen to us when we are vulernable that we think would never  happen.  ...

Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project.  I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow.  First, I found an old pillow I no longer use.  I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it.  I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers.  I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night.  The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion.  I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...

Bar Stools Makeover

I'm still receiving therapy by keeping my hands busy, plus today I ran quite a few errands.  It's been a crying day for me today.  Just so much to worry about.  It seems like sometimes everything is just messed up, and there's nothing we can do to fix any of it.   Night before last, I painted the bar stools.  I've had them since 2000, and they were nice, but I was just in the mood to paint them!!  The form of the stools had a textured bronze color, the seats were beige with the fleur de lis design, and the wood across the back was brown.  Well, needless to say, they got their own coat of chalk paint in white, the seats covered in blue and white, and the boards across the back are blue.  I have the fabric to make matching placemats and napkins, but today was not the day to try to sew, for me.  I'm just too nervous.  In fact, I didn't do anything creative today except switch out the curtains in the powder room that I only made and p...
