Recent Frugal Finds


Today, I want to show you some recent finds, and what I did with them.  I found this iron piece probably 14 years ago but never knew what it should be used for.  I tried adding a small bowl of potpourri but it was top heavy and kept tipping over   I used it in the guest bath for a towel holder.

 
While at my favorite consignment shop, I found something to use with it!!  

This cute nest with eggs. It's not too heavy and fits perfectly! 


I think this is the cutest nest!



I also found an old faded feed sack. The label is very faded aqua, and says Southern Feeds.  I used it to cover an ottoman I added to the office. 


I just draped it over the ottoman, and tied it with jute twine.

It's not easy to see the label on the sack, but it's the perfect color for my new office color. This tray is one I painted a long while back.

I found the new rug at Home Depot.  It looks much better in the room 
It has just a touch of my new wall color and was a great price.

I bought this piece of fabric at the consignment shop for $3.50!!  

It is being used as a runner in the sun room now. I might make something from it though, like pillow covers.




My latest painting of an old farm house. 


Wax warmer from my daughter for my birthday.  Great color and scent !!!  It works perfect in my "new" office!!

What's in the Hutch?

Yesterday I awoke in the mood to do some "deep" cleaning.  First on my list was to dust inside the china cabinet in the dining room.  Can you believe how much dust can get into a closed cabinet.  Really, how does that happen?  My cabinet has glass shelves and they were hazy with dust.  This is a rather tedious job because I not only have china inside, I have all kinds of little "pretties" stored there too.  It's one of the first things you see upon entry into our home, so I really should do this more often.  I want show you the before, sufficeth to say, it had been a while since I had tackled this chore.  Here are some photos showing the "after". Linens & Things

I love finding tablecloths, runners, napkins, and other linens when I am out thrifting. Whether it be at consignment shops, GW, or yard sales, I will usually snap up a pretty linen if it doesn't have a lot of stains.  I will show you some of my favorites. I found several pieces embroideried with this design at a favorite consignment shop. This blue runner (reversible to stripes), found on consignment. This is one of the nicer quality tablecloths I have found, $4.00 at a thrift store. This cloth was around $10.00 on consignment. This runner is also reversible to polka dots, and was a consignment find. This pink and white gingham is perfect in the sun room, and is a consignment find also. This is the most valuable table cloth I have found, and it was $2.00 at a nearby yard sale.  It is a vintage Wielunder.  They sell on ebay for 30 - 90 dollars.  Mine is in pristine condition! Table for Two

 This is what the table in the sun room looked like yesterday.  I was organizing my napkins, runners, etc., and came across the red items, so I decided to make the table a totally valentine table and changed out the napkins and plates.  :)  I also placed a lovely cupids figurine under the dome I made from Habitat items. The windows in this room face the East and look out on to a view of gentle  rolling hills. The morning sun streams in and warms the room.  I have had this little cupids piece for a very long time.  I think I got it at Eckerd Drugs years ago.  It's not even Eckerd Drugs anymore.  It's now Rite Aid. I think they had cuter things a long time ago than they do now. The flowers in this bouquet are from Dollar Tree, as is the ribbon and garland.  I received roses from my husband in the vase a number of years ago.  The little red bird nest is an old Christmas decoration.  I've probably had it for 25 years or more....
