Antiquing & Thrifting With My Sister

Do you have "sister" parties??  My sister lives 2 hours away, and we don't see each other a lot.  I decided to go over and spend the night with her and do some thrifting and antiquing.  She has a wonderful antique mall within a mile of her house.  It looks like a tiny place, but once we got inside, we were amazed!! That place was much bigger than we thought, and had some gorgeous things!!  So much that we wanted, but we were good, and didn't buy anything.  Next we went to a community thrift shop where  I spent a total of $8.25, but got some amazing deals!!

For a quarter, I bought this Johnson Brothers Plate, England 1883, Gala Creme.

It is perfect.

Guess what it is priced on EBay??

$21.00 !!!
I bought for 25c y'all!!

I knew it was worth something, and couldn't wait to check.  I just love the pattern!!

My next treasure was this fabulous picture of a mandolin.

$2.00

The frame was a little worse for the wear, but I cleaned it, and rubbed brown shoe polish on it, and it's now like new.

It now hangs on my old distressed door in the dining room.

My third find was a little more expensive, but I believe it is a Kirkland's picture.  The frame is perfect.  I gave $6.00 for this one.

I love pictures of houses, and have quite a few and for $6.00, I knew this one was coming home with me.

It hangs in the master bedroom.

It's even pretty in b/w.

I'd say I had a banner day, wouldn't you??  I was doing the happy dance all the way home.

Blogging Again From My Mountain Cottage, Shadymont

After a much needed rest, I'm back with a new blog name and a few slight changes, like the template, and the content will vary and not always be home decor, though that is my niche, and I will continue to have it frequently.  But I want to use my blog to also give those who may read it a little encouragement into the Goodness of God. Some of the fog from my depression is lifting now and I'm starting to feel better.  I've had a really hard time, personally, for the last seven months, and the divorce still isn't final.  I think it is nearing being final now though, and I hope I will continue to get clarity from this fog. I have a story to tell regarding other matters, but I still am not able to talk  about it quite yet.  But when I say I've been through the fire, or maybe the pits of hell, just believe me.  I now understand the meaning of Never say "Never"!  Things can happen to us when we are vulernable that we think would never  happen.  ...

Linens & Things

I love finding tablecloths, runners, napkins, and other linens when I am out thrifting. Whether it be at consignment shops, GW, or yard sales, I will usually snap up a pretty linen if it doesn't have a lot of stains.  I will show you some of my favorites. I found several pieces embroideried with this design at a favorite consignment shop. This blue runner (reversible to stripes), found on consignment. This is one of the nicer quality tablecloths I have found, $4.00 at a thrift store. This cloth was around $10.00 on consignment. This runner is also reversible to polka dots, and was a consignment find. This pink and white gingham is perfect in the sun room, and is a consignment find also. This is the most valuable table cloth I have found, and it was $2.00 at a nearby yard sale.  It is a vintage Wielunder.  They sell on ebay for 30 - 90 dollars.  Mine is in pristine condition! Christmas tablecloth, consignment sale. ...

Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project.  I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow.  First, I found an old pillow I no longer use.  I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it.  I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers.  I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night.  The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion.  I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...
