Bookcase Vignettes

I just love styling bookcases, and creating vignettes in them.  I recently worked on this white bookcase that sits in the corner of the dining room.  It is one of the first items I painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, and is a favorite spot to decorate.


This old wooden box has made its rounds throughout the house. It once held 8 track tapes!  It was built in the 70's by our neighbor.  I painted it with ASCP and added labels from the Graphics Fairy, and some stamps to it.  It holds pink heart pillows I made for Valentine's Day.  I still have them out.  The lamp was bought at a consignment shop for $10, and it came with a burgundy lampshade.  I bought the shade it now wears at Wal Mart.  I made the rosette that is attached to the lamp shade.  The box with its Frenchy graphics, and the lampshade match in that they both have fleur de lis', one of my favorite symbols.


The second shelf holds a favorite pitcher from Ross.  I love the lacy texture of the pitcher.  The tray holds old bottles that I altered.  I love making these.  They are simple, but make a statement.

This is the bottom shelf.  It holds a single altered bottle, a bird, and two pears.

Fourth shelf: holds this urn, and an old magnolia that I bought from Home Interiors a long time ago.  I used blue/aqua books for a touch of my favorite colors.  

Why don't you try your hand at creating vignettes on a bookcase?  It allows you to go with a centeral theme, display favorite collections, or experiment with using alot of different textures.

Blogging Again From My Mountain Cottage, Shadymont

After a much needed rest, I'm back with a new blog name and a few slight changes, like the template, and the content will vary and not always be home decor, though that is my niche, and I will continue to have it frequently.  But I want to use my blog to also give those who may read it a little encouragement into the Goodness of God. Some of the fog from my depression is lifting now and I'm starting to feel better.  I've had a really hard time, personally, for the last seven months, and the divorce still isn't final.  I think it is nearing being final now though, and I hope I will continue to get clarity from this fog. Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project.  I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow.  First, I found an old pillow I no longer use.  I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it.  I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers.  I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night.  The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion.  I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...

Bar Stools Makeover

I'm still receiving therapy by keeping my hands busy, plus today I ran quite a few errands.  It's been a crying day for me today.  Just so much to worry about.  It seems like sometimes everything is just messed up, and there's nothing we can do to fix any of it.   Night before last, I painted the bar stools.  I've had them since 2000, and they were nice, but I was just in the mood to paint them!!  The form of the stools had a textured bronze color, the seats were beige with the fleur de lis design, and the wood across the back was brown.  Well, needless to say, they got their own coat of chalk paint in white, the seats covered in blue and white, and the boards across the back are blue.  I have the fabric to make matching placemats and napkins, but today was not the day to try to sew, for me.  I'm just too nervous.  In fact, I didn't do anything creative today except switch out the curtains in the powder room that I only made and p...
