"Reddy"ing the Kitchen

We are at the lake home for a few days, and I decided to make a couple changes in the kitchen.  Since this is a mobile home, it has the wall panels that have a design on them, in this case the colors are blue and green.  I decided to try to find some curtains for the kitchen. Unfortunately, shopping around here is somewhat lacking, (to say the least) but I took a chance on the Wal Mart about 20 miles away.  I didn't see much that really popped out at me, but decided to bring some things home, knowing I could return them if I just couldn't handle the way they looked.  I spent around $70.00, and am o.k. with the changes.  (At least it's a change, and that makes me happy).

I recently hung this topper over the sink, but didn't have a matching one that would fit the door (very near the window)........

so, I dug around and found this one for over the door. (UGH)  It gave privacy, but that's about all!!  It was too short, and i had to hang it with rings.

The Better Homes and Garden line at Wal Mart had some cute kitchen curtains, and this is the pattern I chose.  They give a French vibe, roosters, and fleur de lis, and look more cheerful than those blue ones.

The 36" tiers cover the entire window in the door.

I bought 2 rugs that blend well, I think.

The rug underneath the table was blue, so it's gone, and in its place a smaller one in a tan color.

I bought these plates and placemats to blend with the new colors.

And, look who is checking it all out.....  Mother Hen!!
(this is very old, the hen is ceramic, belonged to my MIL)

I changed the centerpiece on the table to this.

(I love this old sifter)
I also made some changes to the hutch.

So, what have you changed?

Linens & Things

I love finding tablecloths, runners, napkins, and other linens when I am out thrifting. Whether it be at consignment shops, GW, or yard sales, I will usually snap up a pretty linen if it doesn't have a lot of stains.  I will show you some of my favorites. I found several pieces embroideried with this design at a favorite consignment shop. This blue runner (reversible to stripes), found on consignment. This is one of the nicer quality tablecloths I have found, $4.00 at a thrift store. This cloth was around $10.00 on consignment. This runner is also reversible to polka dots, and was a consignment find. This pink and white gingham is perfect in the sun room, and is a consignment find also. This is the most valuable table cloth I have found, and it was $2.00 at a nearby yard sale.  It is a vintage Wielunder.  They sell on ebay for 30 - 90 dollars.  Mine is in pristine condition! Christmas tablecloth, consignment sale. ...

What's in the Hutch?

Yesterday I awoke in the mood to do some "deep" cleaning.  First on my list was to dust inside the china cabinet in the dining room.  Can you believe how much dust can get into a closed cabinet.  Really, how does that happen?  My cabinet has glass shelves and they were hazy with dust.  This is a rather tedious job because I not only have china inside, I have all kinds of little "pretties" stored there too.  It's one of the first things you see upon entry into our home, so I really should do this more often.  I want show you the before, sufficeth to say, it had been a while since I had tackled this chore.  Here are some photos showing the "after". Here is a collection of vases and crystal pitchers .   These were all gifts except the smallest one in the front and the one to the right of it. China and a consignment shop cake plate.  The china was formerly my MILs. More china . This little fairy lives here with her 2 sisters. They ...

Decorating Slump

I have absolutely had the hardest time deciding on how to decorate the dining room table for Thanksgiving.  I am not satisfied with anything I've done.  I'll show you the latest in a long string of 'tries'. Anyway, this is the latest try.  I bought six of these chargers at Dollar Tree, at $1 each.   I layered with this dinner plate and salad plate purchased from Wal Mart several years ago. I stopped there.  No decision yet on silver, glassware, or placemats/napkins.    I have the drop cloth/burlap runner I made last week on the table. I brought out this lovely cake stand bought at Good Will for $4.99.  It is centered on the runner.  I like the contrast between the leaded glass and the runner.  I placed the arrangement I made a few weeks ago on top of the cake stand. I added the two white candle sticks with white candles, leaf garlands, 2 small ceramic pumpkins around the cake pedestal, and stopped. I have to decide on ...
