Spring Inside the House

Our weather man hasn't looked at the calendar I guess! Doesn't he know it's Spring??   It's 46 degrees today and overcast!  I so want it to warm up some.  I guess if the weather outside won't cooperate, we can just go about tweaking the inside so it looks like Spring. I know it won't be long until we're complaining about it being so hot, so I'll enjoy whatever we have.  Here are a few spots of Spring at Shadymont.  I know you have seen some of these before, but maybe some of you haven't.

This sits on the coffee table in the family room.  The tote came from Michael's a year or so ago.

I love this box with the rabbits on it.  I believe it is from Michael's also.

I added this small book underneath the cloche with the bird and flower.  I think it adds interest, and it is the perfect color.

I found these sweet birds at the Dollar Tree.

I went through a bunch of my decor bins earlier this week, and came across this chalk pear and apple.  I had been wondering where they were.  I'm thinking I might paint them white.  They have a green tint now.

The apple is peeping from the sewing machine drawer.  I added a couple of items to the drawer to fill it more.

I added these two tiny pink roses to this cloche with the larger white rose.  I found the small ones at a thrift shop, and the large one is from a friend.

This is printed off the computer.  I think from the Graphics Fairy.  I had the silver frame already.  I placed it with the other aqua items in the family room.  I love the way it looks!

Here's the Easter/Spring mantel.

I love the pastels of Spring.  They are so soothing!

  13. I think it's a good idea to take spring into the living room as it's too cold for it to stay outside. I know that spring is waiting for the sun like me! :-)

Thrifty Bookcase Makeover

About a year ago, I was working on a photo gallery area at the lake home. There is an area about 7x7 between the living room, and the hall bath. I bought a really inexpensive ($20.00) bookcase to use there to hold family photos. I hurriedly placed photos on it, and didn't think much about it.   The last time we were at the lake, I was sitting there looking at how badly it looked, wondering what I could do to spruce it up a little.  It had all colors/types of picture frames -red, pink floral, wood, brass, you name it!   I remembered seeing adhesive shelf liner at the Dollar General the day before.  So I made a quick trip back there, and bought one 9 ft. roll for less than $3.00.  I know this is not an original idea and has been done by lots of people, but I wanted to show you anyway.   First, I emptied out all the photos, pulled out the shelves, measured, and cut the paper to fit inside the bookcase.  I also took all the photos out of the frames and w...

Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project.  I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow.  First, I found an old pillow I no longer use.  I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it.  I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers.  I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night.  The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion.  I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...
