My Easy Winter Decor

Guess what?  I'm using part of my Christmas decor as my Winter decor.  I had a snowman theme for Christmas, so  while packing away the Christmas decor, I just left certain items out for the month of January.  Easy to do, and I'm happy with how it turned out.
The mantel:

I removed the Merry Christmas sign, added snowflakes to the "gate", changed up the floral stems, added a wooden snowman, 2 snowmen for the mantel, and scrabble letters that spell "Let it Snow".

I love how these items look on the "gate".  I love using the white berries with the green and red.  These stems were part of an arrangement I had for Christmas in the sunroom.

Do you see the little snow man?  It is wood, and spells SNOW.

China Cabinet:

I liked the little pops of red in the china cabinet, so I left those and added some mercury glass acorns to the mix.

I think this will work just fine for January.  I've decided to also leave this winter spray on top of the china cabinet.

On the dining table:

Here again, I just took away the Christmas dishes, and removed the pine cones from the center piece, replacing them with snow balls and more mercury glass acorns.

I left the silver chargers and silverware on the table.  I removed the Christmas  napkins, but left the red ones.

I added snowflakes to the burlap wreath.

I left snowflakes and a snowlady in the old sewing drawer.

In the breakfast room:

Here I removed the santa and added a candle.  I added snowflake ornaments to the basket below.

Such an easy way to decorate for the Winter. I kept a snow theme going, but didn't have to 'drag' out more accessories.

How will you decorate for the Winter?

  4. My favorite picture is the one with the snowballs on the table. All your snowmen are cute, and I agree they work well after Christmas. We don't get much snow where I live, so using snowmen after Christmas wasn't really something we did. Then we moved in our subdivision where a lot of people from up North happen to live. We noticed how they took their Christmas stuff down the day after Christmas, yet left the snowmen out until way into February. We don't leave our snowmen out quite that long, but we do now leave them out a few weeks into January to enjoy them more.

Thanks for stopping by my blog tonight. Hope you have a very Happy New Year!

  7. I love your winter theme! I agree with you about decorating for the winter months. I went shopping for after Christmas sales to find decor that had a winter feeling instead of just Christmas. Snow is a great theme to work with for winter!

    Happy New Year!

  13. Smart move creating Winter decor out of some of your Christmas Items. Wish I could figure out how to do that with my Christmas tree. I got all the other stuff put away the other day, but haven't had the gumption to tackle the tree. I hope you have a wonderful new year, Kathy!

  14. Love how you decorated for Winter. Snowflakes and Snowmen, what could be better. I put most of my Snowmen away, but left the bottlebrush snow covered tress and snow covered greenery. Could not put it all away just yet.
Thanks for sharing your ideas. Love the gate with the snowflakes.
    Blessings,

Linens & Things

I love finding tablecloths, runners, napkins, and other linens when I am out thrifting. Whether it be at consignment shops, GW, or yard sales, I will usually snap up a pretty linen if it doesn't have a lot of stains.  I will show you some of my favorites. I found several pieces embroideried with this design at a favorite consignment shop. This blue runner (reversible to stripes), found on consignment. This is one of the nicer quality tablecloths I have found, $4.00 at a thrift store. This cloth was around $10.00 on consignment. This runner is also reversible to polka dots, and was a consignment find. This pink and white gingham is perfect in the sun room, and is a consignment find also. This is the most valuable table cloth I have found, and it was $2.00 at a nearby yard sale.  It is a vintage Wielunder.  They sell on ebay for 30 - 90 dollars.  Mine is in pristine condition! Christmas tablecloth, consignment sale.   Consignmen

Trash to Treasure

We had noticed this "jar" sitting near a trash pile, and my husband decided to see what it was.  It was full of dirt, and covered in grime.  After soaking it a while, it looked much better. The shape and color is very nice. At first I thought it might be a globe for a lamp or some type of candle holder. The bottom has an opening, and no markings. Do you know what it might be? This is how I'm using it. It's made of thick bubbled glass. Any guesses?? Know what this was in its former life?   It makes a wonderful vase for faux flowers! It's a vintage fly /wasp trap!!   Once yucky, now pretty!!! What's in the Hutch?

Yesterday I awoke in the mood to do some "deep" cleaning.  First on my list was to dust inside the china cabinet in the dining room.  Can you believe how much dust can get into a closed cabinet.  Really, how does that happen?  My cabinet has glass shelves and they were hazy with dust.  This is a rather tedious job because I not only have china inside, I have all kinds of little "pretties" stored there too.  It's one of the first things you see upon entry into our home, so I really should do this more often.  I want show you the before, sufficeth to say, it had been a while since I had tackled this chore.  Here are some photos showing the "after". Here is a collection of vases and crystal pitchers .   These were all gifts except the smallest one in the front and the one to the right of it. China and a consignment shop cake plate.  The china was formerly my MILs. More china . This little fairy lives here with her 2 sisters. They can all be seen
