A Few Thrifty Finds

There were lots of sales a few Saturdays ago, so I made the rounds.  A large group of people had a sale at the local fairgrounds, under a pavilion complete with large industrial fans (comfort is important you know).  There were probably 25 or more separate sales areas in the pavilion so you could just walk thru one after the other.  Of course I don't need any more stuff, so I did restrain myself from buying.  There were a few items that I thought I could use for projects, so I spent three whole dollars at this sale.  There were some great items, but really,  I don't need anything.  At any rate these are the items I bought, and what I did with them.
A hunter green frame ($1.00)

I had already painted it with homemade chalk paint before I remembered the camera, but imagine solid dark hunter green.  I finished it up today by putting some ASCP dark stain on it and wiping it off, then putting some more of the chalk paint on it.  I was sitting here and had a light bulb moment.....I had leftover chicken wire in the basement, so here is the completed project!

I quickly grabbed photos of my family and clipped them to the wire, and leaned it on my desk in the office.  I'm eventually going to go through some photos for some old black and white ones, and add to it.  This project cost me a dollar.

I also bought a couple more things.

This little broken necklace was fifty cents, and I knew immediately that it would look cute on this precious little pink cherub.

 It's a perfect fit for her.


I bought the cherub below. She was a brassy color.  A quick spray with white paint, and she looks so sweet.  I did not want the paint to be perfect.  You can see some of the brassy color.


I bought this full roll of lace for 50 cents.

My other item netted me a fourteen dollar savings.


Fifty cents, new still on the card.

Then at another sale to benefit the Boy Scouts, I bought these delicious organic tomatoes.  They had a wonderful flavor.

  So for five dollars and fifty cents, I think I did great.

After a much needed rest, I'm back with a new blog name and a few slight changes, like the template, and the content will vary and not always be home decor, though that is my niche, and I will continue to have it frequently.  But I want to use my blog to also give those who may read it a little encouragement into the Goodness of God. Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project.  I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow.  First, I found an old pillow I no longer use.  I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it.  I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers.  I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night.  The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion.  I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...

Bar Stools Makeover

I'm still receiving therapy by keeping my hands busy, plus today I ran quite a few errands.  It's been a crying day for me today.  Just so much to worry about.  It seems like sometimes everything is just messed up, and there's nothing we can do to fix any of it.   Night before last, I painted the bar stools.  I've had them since 2000, and they were nice, but I was just in the mood to paint them!!  The form of the stools had a textured bronze color, the seats were beige with the fleur de lis design, and the wood across the back was brown.  Well, needless to say, they got their own coat of chalk paint in white, the seats covered in blue and white, and the boards across the back are blue.  I have the fabric to make matching placemats and napkins, but today was not the day to try to sew, for me.  I'm just too nervous.  In fact, I didn't do anything creative today except switch out the curtains in the powder room that I only made and p...
