Loving Neutrals

I often decorate with neutral colors.  To me, they are more soothing, especially in the master suite.

The paint color is Classic Taupe, Olympic brand I think. I bought this comforter set at Wal Mart, BHG brand.  It has micro suede blocks of fabric, which I really like.

Just pretend you don't see my CPAP machine on the night stand.  Keeping it real!
The runner on the dresser is the one I made from a drop cloth, and trimmed with burlap garland.

Now pretend you don't see the fan.  :) My husband drove a truck for over 40 years and got used to hearing the truck run while he slept, so we run a fan.  I know there are white noise machines, I have one--not the same.
These french doors lead into the sun room.

The neutral colors are carried on into the master bath.

Love my soaker tub.  I chose not to have jets.

The tub surround is porcelain tile exactly like that on the floor.  I really love this tile, and wish I had put the same tile in my kitchen, sun room, and breakfast nook.  It's so much easier to clean than what I have.

The husband loves white linens.  He can bleach them all he likes.  :)  Did I ever tell you he may be a neat freak?  Just sayin'.

Still keeping it real folks.  :)  My mirrors are framed with beveled mirror strips. I have enjoyed these.  When we built this home, brass fixtures were the rage, but they don't bother me at all.  They're good quality, and easily cleaned.

Well there you have it, a peek at the master suite at Sharing Shadymont.  Hope you enjoyed your tour!

I'm linking to a few good parties, and hope you'll drop by for a visit.

  2. What a pretty, relaxing room, and I love your comforter. I run a fan most of the time too, it's just a little too quiet without it, plus I like the air moving a little bit even if its not blowing in my direction.

Your tub is fabulous, I have one on my list for my next house!

  3. Thanks for keeping it real...I feel so much better!!! The first thing that caught my eye was the pretty 3 part mirror on your dresser, that is so pretty, love it. The second is that wonderful tile in the bath, very nice, love the soothing tones...I choose the same handles for my kitchen cupboards!!! How funny!!! And the print you framed is just perfect in your room!!!

  5. I love your tub area ~ that must be heaven to soak in! I've been liking white towels myself lately. Yes, to be able to just throw bleach in and have them looking pristine after a wash! I'm slowly picking up new ones and banishing the old to the rag basket.

  6. I love your pretty bedroom and bath. I think the bedding is so lovely and the BHG line at Walmart has some pretty stuff.
I have a fan too in my bedroom and cannot sleep without it, so I understand. Also I never thought about having the tub installed without the jets, good idea.
I'm all about white towels, they just look cleaner and prettier.

  7. What a pretty and soothing master suite. I also keep a fan on in the bedroom....for the noise.....and the hot flashes too (talk about keeping it real) I LOVE your soaker tub....our tub is so shallow, it's like trying to bath in a foot basin....very unsatisfying.

Linens & Things

I love finding tablecloths, runners, napkins, and other linens when I am out thrifting. Whether it be at consignment shops, GW, or yard sales, I will usually snap up a pretty linen if it doesn't have a lot of stains.  I will show you some of my favorites. I found several pieces embroideried with this design at a favorite consignment shop. This blue runner (reversible to stripes), found on consignment. This is one of the nicer quality tablecloths I have found, $4.00 at a thrift store. This cloth was around $10.00 on consignment. This runner is also reversible to polka dots, and was a consignment find. This pink and white gingham is perfect in the sun room, and is a consignment find also. This is the most valuable table cloth I have found, and it was $2.00 at a nearby yard sale.  It is a vintage Wielunder.  They sell on ebay for 30 - 90 dollars.  Mine is in pristine condition! Christmas tablecloth, consignment sale.   Consignmen

Trash to Treasure

We had noticed this "jar" sitting near a trash pile, and my husband decided to see what it was.  It was full of dirt, and covered in grime.  After soaking it a while, it looked much better. The shape and color is very nice. At first I thought it might be a globe for a lamp or some type of candle holder. The bottom has an opening, and no markings. Do you know what it might be? This is how I'm using it. It's made of thick bubbled glass. Any guesses?? Know what this was in its former life?   It makes a wonderful vase for faux flowers! It's a vintage fly /wasp trap!!   Once yucky, now pretty!!! What's in the Hutch?

Yesterday I awoke in the mood to do some "deep" cleaning.  First on my list was to dust inside the china cabinet in the dining room.  Can you believe how much dust can get into a closed cabinet.  Really, how does that happen?  My cabinet has glass shelves and they were hazy with dust.  This is a rather tedious job because I not only have china inside, I have all kinds of little "pretties" stored there too.  It's one of the first things you see upon entry into our home, so I really should do this more often.  I want show you the before, sufficeth to say, it had been a while since I had tackled this chore.  Here are some photos showing the "after". Here is a collection of vases and crystal pitchers .   These were all gifts except the smallest one in the front and the one to the right of it. China and a consignment shop cake plate.  The china was formerly my MILs. More china . This little fairy lives here with her 2 sisters. They can all be seen
