Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow (and a few thrifty finds)

Since we have no snow and no promise of any.... (62 degrees), I'll just have to be satisfied enjoying my snowmen collection.  I never thought about collecting them.  But I just gathered them together and I have quite a few.

This handsome guy was a gift this week from a co-worker. He's also a cookie jar.

Here's the whole gang, corralled in this thrifty tray.
Aren't they adorable?  The tall guy on the far left was found yesterday at my favorite consignment shop. He is heavy!  For $6.00, he was calling to me.  I passed him up once, but before I got out of the store, he yelled one more time and I gave in.

I'll introduce the back row now.

Left to right, 1st up is Daddy Snow, next is Mom Snow, and  the 'hefty' one on the right is Grandmother Snow.  She's dressed in her kerchief.  All those little guys in the front,  that's the Snow children.  Goodness, that's a lot of kids to put through college.  Hope they win the lottery!!

Can't forget these two little sweeties!

This lovely tin came home with me too.  $4.00. Isn't it just lovely?

It's a great place to put these napkins I've had for a very long time.

I tried using these napkins with my holly dishes, but decided I liked the solid red ones.

I bought one other thing.  It's a 9 foot garland of cranberry colored wooden beads seen here on the mantel.  It looks black in the picture.

 Whoops,  almost forgot some snowmen.
Snowmen on the tablecloth in the breakfast area.

Snowmen on a platter in the sunroom.

And I have a snowman on the front porch, but my camera has decided to be stubborn and won't let me upload the picture.

What do you think?  Is this a collection?

  4. Nice collection! I didn't realize I had a collection of snowmen either until a year or two ago when I looked around. I had them scattered throughout the house previously but once I realized what I had I put them all together. They make for quite a nice display! I love yours in that magnificent tray. What a great metal piece, too.

  8. Lovely Frosty Snowmen! I have quite a few myself of these jovial little people. Some that are up to 3 ft tall that have little 2 ft children. I used to sell Christmas Around the World many moons ago until they folded 10 years ago. LOVELY time of the year to celebrate the Christmas season and decorate, isn't it? I'm also from GA ~ I'm in the Braselton area. Often we GA bloggers have luncheons and get together...we'll have to connect by email to see how close we are. Email me at serendipitea@bellsouth.net please. This was we can invite you to our next gathering. I love to come to Clarksville from time to time...are you that part of N. Georgia?

I have a few snowmen that I grouped together in the kitchen this year. It's small in comparison to your collection, but it is a start! Hope you had a wonderful Christmas celebration this year. I looked around this morning and wondered how in the world I was going to put it all away so soon- seems as if it just got finished! LOL

Linens & Things

I love finding tablecloths, runners, napkins, and other linens when I am out thrifting. Whether it be at consignment shops, GW, or yard sales, I will usually snap up a pretty linen if it doesn't have a lot of stains.  I will show you some of my favorites. I found several pieces embroideried with this design at a favorite consignment shop. This blue runner (reversible to stripes), found on consignment. This is one of the nicer quality tablecloths I have found, $4.00 at a thrift store. This cloth was around $10.00 on consignment. This runner is also reversible to polka dots, and was a consignment find. This pink and white gingham is perfect in the sun room, and is a consignment find also. This is the most valuable table cloth I have found, and it was $2.00 at a nearby yard sale.  It is a vintage Wielunder.  They sell on ebay for 30 - 90 dollars.  Mine is in pristine condition! Christmas tablecloth, consignment sale.   Consignmen

Trash to Treasure

We had noticed this "jar" sitting near a trash pile, and my husband decided to see what it was.  It was full of dirt, and covered in grime.  After soaking it a while, it looked much better. The shape and color is very nice. At first I thought it might be a globe for a lamp or some type of candle holder. The bottom has an opening, and no markings. Do you know what it might be? This is how I'm using it. It's made of thick bubbled glass. Any guesses?? Know what this was in its former life?   It makes a wonderful vase for faux flowers! It's a vintage fly /wasp trap!!   Once yucky, now pretty!!! What's in the Hutch?

Yesterday I awoke in the mood to do some "deep" cleaning.  First on my list was to dust inside the china cabinet in the dining room.  Can you believe how much dust can get into a closed cabinet.  Really, how does that happen?  My cabinet has glass shelves and they were hazy with dust.  This is a rather tedious job because I not only have china inside, I have all kinds of little "pretties" stored there too.  It's one of the first things you see upon entry into our home, so I really should do this more often.  I want show you the before, sufficeth to say, it had been a while since I had tackled this chore.  Here are some photos showing the "after". Here is a collection of vases and crystal pitchers .   These were all gifts except the smallest one in the front and the one to the right of it. China and a consignment shop cake plate.  The china was formerly my MILs. More china . This little fairy lives here with her 2 sisters. They can all be seen
