Cozy Corner and Little Brown Jug

Sharing a corner decorated for fall.

This is the scene when you walk through the front door.

This is the table that I used ASCP and the dark wax to refinish.  I used the wax heavily and really like the way it turned out.  The shelf under the picture was added.  It is extremely light weight and is held up with sticky velcro.  The wire pumpkin and the flower arrangement were in my storage bin from last year.  I like that this area is decorated all the way up the wall.

Note the detail on the shelf.  I've had this for a number of years.  I think I bought it at a place called Grand Harbor Imports, which went out of business.  They had the neatest decorative items.

NOW...........
A Hearth Vignette
(Ode to the Little Brown Jug)

Since the hearth provides a flat surface, I decided to decorate it too!!  (lol)

I remember this old jug sitting in an outbuilding when I was growing up.  So you know it's OLD!  Let's just say it's "seasoned".  Looks like it has had it's share of hard knocks too!  :)

Most definitely.....been around the block a few times.

Taking my "little brown jug" to these parties this week:
Show off your Cottage Monday at House in the Roses.
Table Top Tuesday at A Stroll Thru Life
Wow Us Wednesday at Savvy Southern Style
Feather Your Nest Friday at French Country Cottage
Vintage Inspiration Friday at Common Ground

Have a fantastic week, y'all!

  5. Oh how I love your little brown jug! I have the cutest pic of my mother when she was a little girl. She is sitting on a metal chair. Her legs are dangling off with high top shoes, and there below them sits a little brown jug. I would love to find one someday. Your Fall decor looks lovely. I too like how it goes up the wall. It is very pleasing to look at.

  7. Hi lovely lady.
I also love your little brown jug so County!!
Jugs are great for the fall in your decor. I have one but it is from a old farm house. I think it was for Apple Cider Maybe.

  9. When I saw your "little brown jug" in the thumbnail over at Marty's, I just had to pop in for a visit. I used to have one on my front porch at my very first home a looooong time ago. Someone stole it! I wanted to cry. They must be valuable as they sure don't make them anymore.

All your autumn touches look lovely around the house. I am going to add a few more items to my hearth after seeing yours.

    fondly,
    Rett

So you like the ASCP? I have been wanting to give it a try! I like the fact that you don't have to sand or prime with it.

  13. Your home is lovely all decorated for fall. It looks nice having that touch of fall to welcome friends when they arrive. Everyone must have a little brown jug , didn't know they were so popular. I had one which was very old and gave it to my brother because it looked good in his masculine decorated home. It was a dark brown color. Seeing how nice yours looks, I might just go take mine back. Hehe
    Have a great weekend.--------Shannon

Linens & Things

I love finding tablecloths, runners, napkins, and other linens when I am out thrifting. Whether it be at consignment shops, GW, or yard sales, I will usually snap up a pretty linen if it doesn't have a lot of stains.  I will show you some of my favorites. I found several pieces embroideried with this design at a favorite consignment shop. This blue runner (reversible to stripes), found on consignment. This is one of the nicer quality tablecloths I have found, $4.00 at a thrift store. This cloth was around $10.00 on consignment. This runner is also reversible to polka dots, and was a consignment find. This pink and white gingham is perfect in the sun room, and is a consignment find also. This is the most valuable table cloth I have found, and it was $2.00 at a nearby yard sale.  It is a vintage Wielunder.  They sell on ebay for 30 - 90 dollars.  Mine is in pristine condition! Christmas tablecloth, consignment sale.   Consignmen

Trash to Treasure

We had noticed this "jar" sitting near a trash pile, and my husband decided to see what it was.  It was full of dirt, and covered in grime.  After soaking it a while, it looked much better. The shape and color is very nice. At first I thought it might be a globe for a lamp or some type of candle holder. The bottom has an opening, and no markings. Do you know what it might be? This is how I'm using it. It's made of thick bubbled glass. Any guesses?? Know what this was in its former life?   It makes a wonderful vase for faux flowers! It's a vintage fly /wasp trap!!   Once yucky, now pretty!!! What's in the Hutch?

Yesterday I awoke in the mood to do some "deep" cleaning.  First on my list was to dust inside the china cabinet in the dining room.  Can you believe how much dust can get into a closed cabinet.  Really, how does that happen?  My cabinet has glass shelves and they were hazy with dust.  This is a rather tedious job because I not only have china inside, I have all kinds of little "pretties" stored there too.  It's one of the first things you see upon entry into our home, so I really should do this more often.  I want show you the before, sufficeth to say, it had been a while since I had tackled this chore.  Here are some photos showing the "after". Here is a collection of vases and crystal pitchers .   These were all gifts except the smallest one in the front and the one to the right of it. China and a consignment shop cake plate.  The china was formerly my MILs. More china . This little fairy lives here with her 2 sisters. They can all be seen
