Changes in the Breakfast Nook

Today I went to Kirkland's looking for a new print for my breakfast nook.  The "grapes" print just wasn't doing anything for the rooster theme I have going on right now.  The selection wasn't great for roosters, but I keep looking and found two painted on burlap and stretched over the canvas, so I decided I'd give them a new home.

They have a definite French feel.
Brought some greenery into the vignette, and used thrifted place mats for a runner.

I switched out the plates in the plate rack for these with a French flair.

Couldn't leave out the rooster tray!
It's hard to tell but the rooster lamp has a gray and white toile shade.
The white rooster lamp was a consignment shop find.

This photo captures the entire wall.

Isn't he a handsome fellow?

Love the look of this!
The new wall decor made a much needed change in the breakfast nook.  They weren't thrifted, but they were a great bargain at $ 20.00 each.

I will be linking up to several parties this week, including:

Tabletop Tuesday

These ladies know how to throw a party.  Be sure to stop by!

  2. Looks great! I like the white rooster, but the black one is my favourite. But then, black has always been my favourite colour.

Blogging Again From My Mountain Cottage, Shadymont

After a much needed rest, I'm back with a new blog name and a few slight changes, like the template, and the content will vary and not always be home decor, though that is my niche, and I will continue to have it frequently.  But I want to use my blog to also give those who may read it a little encouragement into the Goodness of God. Some of the fog from my depression is lifting now and I'm starting to feel better.  I've had a really hard time, personally, for the last seven months, and the divorce still isn't final.  I think it is nearing being final now though, and I hope I will continue to get clarity from this fog. I have a story to tell regarding other matters, but I still am not able to talk  about it quite yet.  But when I say I've been through the fire, or maybe the pits of hell, just believe me.  I now understand the meaning of Never say "Never"!  Things can happen to us when we are vulernable that we think would never  happen.  ...

Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project.  I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow.  First, I found an old pillow I no longer use.  I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it.  I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers.  I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night.  The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion.  I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...

Thrifty Bookcase Makeover

About a year ago, I was working on a photo gallery area at the lake home. There is an area about 7x7 between the living room, and the hall bath. I bought a really inexpensive ($20.00) bookcase to use there to hold family photos. I hurriedly placed photos on it, and didn't think much about it.   The last time we were at the lake, I was sitting there looking at how badly it looked, wondering what I could do to spruce it up a little.  It had all colors/types of picture frames -red, pink floral, wood, brass, you name it!   I remembered seeing adhesive shelf liner at the Dollar General the day before.  So I made a quick trip back there, and bought one 9 ft. roll for less than $3.00.  I know this is not an original idea and has been done by lots of people, but I wanted to show you anyway.   First, I emptied out all the photos, pulled out the shelves, measured, and cut the paper to fit inside the bookcase.  I also took all the photos out of the frames and w...
