Cockadoodle doo

Friday was a good day.  I went to Sweet Tea my new favorite consignment
shop.  There he was standing on a table near the window, this handsome fellow!  And, he's a lamp!  Joy, Joy!

I looked at him for a while and walked away.  Looked through the entire store, then went back to look at him again.  He was priced at $19.95.  You know what I did next.....I stood there thinking about it, I don't really need another lamp, I thought.  But there was just something about his stature, the set of his head, then there was that shade......

Toile.  But I'm still thinking, I really don't need anything else for the house.  It's bursting at the seams already.  "Walk away"  kept ringing in my ears.  I tried, I really did. But alas, I could not leave this handsome fellow.  So, he came home with me and here he is in all his glory!  Isn't he a handsome dude?

I knew I wanted him in the breakfast nook. So I placed him there and then played with other rooster's until I got the look I wanted.
Looks pretty, but not quite right.
So I moved the green hen near him because the color matches so well with the mat and frame on the pictures above the pie safe.
 Yes, this is good!
Looks good from all angles.  He's a keeper.  In fact I don't know what I did without him!  :)
While I was having so much fun, I set up a new vignette on my kitchen counter.  Thinking about Thanksgiving.

I'm linking to Marty at A Stroll thru Life for Table Top Tuesday.  Come over and have a look at all the fabulous decor.

  1. Love your new rooster lamp! You have found the perfect spot for him too. It really looks great there on your cabinet in between the two apple prints. Very nice!

  6. Your cute rooster story reminds me of my own. I found one at Home Goods a few years back, Didn't buy it but it stayed on my mind. Next I told my daughter how good it would look in her kitchen. She didn't buy it either. Well, I got that rooster when I went back! When my daughter saw it later she said, "I love that rooster lamp." and I reminded her that I had tried to tell her how cute it was.I have enjoyed it for many years and recently changed the shade. It's new all over again.

Blogging Again From My Mountain Cottage, Shadymont

After a much needed rest, I'm back with a new blog name and a few slight changes, like the template, and the content will vary and not always be home decor, though that is my niche, and I will continue to have it frequently.  But I want to use my blog to also give those who may read it a little encouragement into the Goodness of God. Some of the fog from my depression is lifting now and I'm starting to feel better.  I've had a really hard time, personally, for the last seven months, and the divorce still isn't final.  I think it is nearing being final now though, and I hope I will continue to get clarity from this fog. I have a story to tell regarding other matters, but I still am not able to talk  about it quite yet.  But when I say I've been through the fire, or maybe the pits of hell, just believe me.  I now understand the meaning of Never say "Never"!  Things can happen to us when we are vulernable that we think would never  happen.  ...

Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project.  I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow.  First, I found an old pillow I no longer use.  I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it.  I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers.  I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night.  The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion.  I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...

Bar Stools Makeover

I'm still receiving therapy by keeping my hands busy, plus today I ran quite a few errands.  It's been a crying day for me today.  Just so much to worry about.  It seems like sometimes everything is just messed up, and there's nothing we can do to fix any of it.   Night before last, I painted the bar stools.  I've had them since 2000, and they were nice, but I was just in the mood to paint them!!  The form of the stools had a textured bronze color, the seats were beige with the fleur de lis design, and the wood across the back was brown.  Well, needless to say, they got their own coat of chalk paint in white, the seats covered in blue and white, and the boards across the back are blue.  I have the fabric to make matching placemats and napkins, but today was not the day to try to sew, for me.  I'm just too nervous.  In fact, I didn't do anything creative today except switch out the curtains in the powder room that I only made and p...
