Simpler Tabletop

I changed out my dining room table today.  I had gotten a little tired of the rust table cloth and decided to just use place mats for the period between now and Thanksgiving.  I may change it again before then though.  At least it will look like this for a few days.  :)

I decided not to have so many pieces on the table and to not layer the dishes.  Just want it to be simple and clean for a while.

This is a tall candle holder I purchased at a consignment store a couple years ago.
The placemats were on clearance at Pier 1 for $.98 each.

The wired pumpkin was actually free at CVS.  I had a coupon for $5.00 off any halloween decor, it's tag was $4.99.  Can't beat free!!

The silk leaves and ceramic pumpkins are from Dollar Tree.

This plate stand was only $4.95 at Sweet Tea, a favorite consignment shop. The picture is of a pheasant and is VERY old.  My husband had it for years and while going through some boxes the other day, I ran across it and decided I would use it because of the fall colors and the green mat matches the wall in the dining room.

This art work is one I bought when we first built the house, so it is about 10 years old.  I love the frame and the scenery in this piece.  It's so peaceful.
I hope you like the changes I have made in my dining room.  I am pleased with the clean and simple look.

  1. The tall candle holder looks lovely. I like the simple clean look. It is very calming. Sometimes I do this to clear my mind before gearing up for the decorating frenzy of the holidays.
    Happpy Halloween!

Blogging Again From My Mountain Cottage, Shadymont

After a much needed rest, I'm back with a new blog name and a few slight changes, like the template, and the content will vary and not always be home decor, though that is my niche, and I will continue to have it frequently.  But I want to use my blog to also give those who may read it a little encouragement into the Goodness of God. Some of the fog from my depression is lifting now and I'm starting to feel better.  I've had a really hard time, personally, for the last seven months, and the divorce still isn't final.  I think it is nearing being final now though, and I hope I will continue to get clarity from this fog. I have a story to tell regarding other matters, but I still am not able to talk  about it quite yet.  But when I say I've been through the fire, or maybe the pits of hell, just believe me.  I now understand the meaning of Never say "Never"!  Things can happen to us when we are vulernable that we think would never  happen.  ...

Linens & Things

I love finding tablecloths, runners, napkins, and other linens when I am out thrifting. Whether it be at consignment shops, GW, or yard sales, I will usually snap up a pretty linen if it doesn't have a lot of stains.  I will show you some of my favorites. I found several pieces embroideried with this design at a favorite consignment shop. This blue runner (reversible to stripes), found on consignment. This is one of the nicer quality tablecloths I have found, $4.00 at a thrift store. This cloth was around $10.00 on consignment. This runner is also reversible to polka dots, and was a consignment find. This pink and white gingham is perfect in the sun room, and is a consignment find also. This is the most valuable table cloth I have found, and it was $2.00 at a nearby yard sale.  It is a vintage Wielunder.  They sell on ebay for 30 - 90 dollars.  Mine is in pristine condition! Christmas tablecloth, consignment sale. ...

Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project.  I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow.  First, I found an old pillow I no longer use.  I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it.  I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers.  I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night.  The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion.  I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...
