Restore FInds

Yesterday on my way to buy groceries, I stopped off at the Habitat for Humanity Restore.  I had only ever been there once and remembered it being extremely crowded with 'stuff'.  Yesterday, it was neat and orderly and they were having a bag sale.  All you could stuff in a small plastic grocery bag for $2.00.

I first found a cloche type arrangement that was stuffed with OLD, DRY, but real flowers.  It looked really dirty, but I didn't want it the way it was.  I could see the possibilities.  You know how we are when we see any kind of domed item, instant cloche!!!

This is the wooden bottom that had glued on nasty yucky brittle flowers. I have torn them off, and have not painted the base yet.   I will paint it use it for a base for something else or a candle holder.  I have a huge candle in the shape of a snowball I can use with the wooden base once it's painted.

In my $2.00 bag, I placed a glass candle holder, and two plates.

I like the shape of the blue plate.

You can't see them very well, but the little green plate is opaque and has little bumble bees on it.

Here's the candle holder.

Look what I made out of this combination of things.

I super-glued the candle holder to the bottom of the plate, added the dome, which fit it perfectly and viola,  cloche display stand...  whoo hoo...

Here is what I did with the little green plate.

I used a candle jar and turned it upside down over a faux acorn and leaves to make a mini cloche.

Not bad for a total of $2.00!!

What thrifty treasures have you found recently?

Thrifty Bookcase Makeover

About a year ago, I was working on a photo gallery area at the lake home. There is an area about 7x7 between the living room, and the hall bath. I bought a really inexpensive ($20.00) bookcase to use there to hold family photos. I hurriedly placed photos on it, and didn't think much about it.   The last time we were at the lake, I was sitting there looking at how badly it looked, wondering what I could do to spruce it up a little.  It had all colors/types of picture frames -red, pink floral, wood, brass, you name it!   I remembered seeing adhesive shelf liner at the Dollar General the day before.  So I made a quick trip back there, and bought one 9 ft. roll for less than $3.00.  I know this is not an original idea and has been done by lots of people, but I wanted to show you anyway.   First, I emptied out all the photos, pulled out the shelves, measured, and cut the paper to fit inside the bookcase.  I also took all the photos out of the frames and w...

Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project.  I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow.  First, I found an old pillow I no longer use.  I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it.  I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers.  I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night.  The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion.  I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...
