Simple Changes for a Shabby Sun Room

I use pastels in the sunroom.  The furniture is all white, and I mainly use pink and green, but have added some blues/aqua as well.  The dark hunter green cushions in the chaise lounge just wasn't cutting it.  I had run across a very old sheet the other day.  So I cut it into one large piece, and one small, wrapped the cushions with it, and pinned it on. One day when I feel especially industrious, I will cut to fit, and sew it into slip covers for the cushions.  Anyway, the lightened up version looks like this. (BEFORE) with hunter green. You can tell by the wrinkles that I had to "try it out"! I recently dragged out these old sheers with the pink and green embroideried flowers and hung them in the sun room. The crocheted table cloth was a $15.00 Queen of Hearts find a while ago! You can make a quick change by using old linens to update cushions, etc.  I like the difference this made in this room. ...

Thrifty Candlestick Makeover

I bought this trio of candlesticks a number of years ago at Kirkland's, and have had them on display somewhere in the house ever since. I've enjoyed them in bronze with the slight white-washed effect, but decided they could stand a makeover.  Out came my Lowe's sample paint in white.   I brushed on three coats of paint. I placed them on the dresser in the master bedroom, where they are reflected in the mirror. I decided they needed a little bling, and used small jute string to tie charms on them. Two of the charms are angels, and one is a cross. I'm sure I will enjoy the change. I really like the white candles with the white candlesticks.   A nice change, no money spent!  My kind of decorating!! Primping and Tweaking Vignettes

I showed you this sweet bird cage/cloche I found at Queen of Hearts Antiques.  I had originally placed it in the sun room.  This morning I was cleaning and dusting, and decided to move a few things around.  So simple, but it can have a great impact on your decor.   I moved the birdcage to the living room near the frenchy wire basket I bought last weekend. I changed the succulent plant for this flower pot and bird. As usual, when you move one thing, it starts a chain reaction. This potted grass got moved to the entry table. (ten dollar consignment find) This cupid bowl with roses was moved to the book case. This piece gets moved around quite frequently.  I've had it a very long time, but don't remember where I bought it from. The tray on the coffee table got an update too. I purchased the greenery in the tray on clearance at Michael's on Friday.  Here you again see the sweet wo...

Change in Living Room

I was at Kirkland's today looking in the 'green tag' section, and found this lamp shade for $6.00.  It is a great update for this lamp. The shade generally on this lamp is burgundy. I bought the canvas also.  It was on sale for $20.00.   I left the frenchie basket and the birdcage in the vignette. I like the way the canvas and the lamp shade blend. Simple, inexpensive changes gives the room a whole new look. The picture that was here was moved to the dining room. Framed Collage Craft

While browsing the antique store the other day, I saw this oval frame collage. I couldn't find a price on it, but knew that I could make my own out of items I already had.  I gathered some foam board, and various papers and embellishments together and proceeded to create my own framed collage.  I laid the frame down on the foam board, drew around the inside of the frame, and used a utility knife to cut out the foam board. Next, I just started placing bits and pieces of the items I had gathered together into the frame. Below is my finished project.  I used more color than the inspiration piece.  I have used these strips with musical notes on them for several crafts.  I made them by printing sheet music off the computer, and cutting it into strips.  Some of the fowers are Wallies, and the daisies are embellishments from Michael's.   The letters spelling FLEURS are also from Michael's. I bought the frame at a yard sale last summe...
