A Little Autumn in the Breakfast Nook

Autumn has fallen in the breakfast nook!  Simple changes that will work until time for the Christmas decor.  I'll just add a couple of Thanksgiving items for that holiday, so that should be easy. I reused the vinyl tablecloth I bought last year.  I think it is a BHG from Wal Mart.   The tablecloth is practical because we can wipe it off after meals, and don't have to worry about staining good linens.  My centerpiece is the mitre box I bought for a dollar at a yard sale and painted with ASCP Olde White.  I simply laid three Dollar Tree ceramic pumpkins into the box.  Total cost for the centerpiece, $4.00, and already on hand. There are more Dollar Tree pumpkins in the black tray, a wooden Autumn sign from DG, and the side table is done!  This arrangement is one of the first items I ever bought at Good Will.  The colors go well for Fall. This photo shows the top of the pie safe.   Breakfast room done!  Her...

Frugal Yard Sale Finds & a Quick Project

It goes without saying that I am frugal!  I visited a couple yard sales on Saturday, and came away with a few items, all for $2.50. I found this like new shower curtain for $.50.  I plan to use it to cover the cushions in the rockers on the front porch or in the chairs on the screened porch.   This Kirkland's picture frame still in the package was originally $12.99, then a red sticker showed $8.99.  I got it for $1.00.  Love the fall colors. This flower pot, hand stamped and painted by the seller was $.50.  I can always find a use for it.  Of course it could hold a plant, pencils/pens, paint brushes, makeup brushes....all kinds of uses. This small picnic basket was also hand painted by the seller.  It was $.50 as well.  I've already filled it with tiny faux pumpkins. This photo makes it look bigger than it is.  It's actually about 6" square, but so cute. Pretty good haul I'd say!  All this for $2.50...

Fall Decor in the Entry

I last showed you the fall decor in the dining room.  The entry table/wall got a new fall look as well.  My entry has a large opening on the right to the dining room, and the powder room is on the left, so there's not much wall space.  There is about a 4 ft. wall facing the front door, so I decorate it as the entry.   This is what I used for this year's Fall entry table.  Nothing is new. Notice the rattan wine box with Fall picks in it.  Well, true to form, that got changed.  While at the consignment shop the other day, I picked up this small burlap bag for $3.50. I moved the flowers into the burlap bag.

Not Your Typical Window Treatments

I decided I would like to join the fun at Funky Junk Interiors' Nontraditional Window Treatments, themed linky party.  These two examples are not as "funky" as some you will see at the party, but are somewhat nontraditional.  In my powder room, rather than use a typical window treatment, I simply draped this table topper over a cheapo extension rod, and it gave the room a whole new look.  I have really enjoyed it! Powder Room Using the white table topper brightens the room, and blends in with all the other white there. Sun Room In the sun room, I have a combination of twin size sheets, just draped across ceramic grape cluster tie backs, with "old" lace curtains hanging on two of the windows also.  This is another look I have enjoyed. Again, not your typical window treatments! Again, I think the treatments in the sun room go well with the white items in there too! Be sure you come over and see all the fun items used as windo...

A Tiny Red Tool Box

Warning: A wordy post, but I think you'll get a kick out of it. We were at the lake house for a few days, and as I often do, I went rambling in the garden sheds out back.  I noticed a small red tool box sitting alongside two larger ones on a shelf.  I peeped inside and saw that it was extremely rusty, and held only an old ballpein hammer, and some type of tool with what looked like a hooked knife on one end. I thought about the little tool box a day or so, and asked the hubby if he knew it was in the shed.  He said that he did, and that it had belonged to his uncle who passed away a number of years ago.  He had lived with my MIL the last few years of his life, and they had been so good for each other.  They were both alone, so when he needed someone, my husband and his brother discussed him moving in with their mother, and she gladly agreed.  Those two got into lots of mischief!  They were already in their 80's, but they worked in the yards and ho...

Vignette in a Chair

I recently showed you this faux plant and frenchy urn sitting in a chair in my dining room. I was looking in a closet where I store a few decorating items, and came across this green pumpkin and the large pedestal I made from a candle stick and a wooden cheese tray from Good Will.  I had already added a gray wooden tray under the urn in this chair.  So I brought these items and added them to the tray as well, and now have a vignette in a chair! I found the pumpkin at Tuesday Morning a few years ago.  The urn, gray tray, and hat box are consignment items. I think these items together make a unique and lush vignette. What do you think? Autumn In the Sun Room

I decided to use more neutral colors to decorate the sun room for Fall.  I am pleased with the outcome.  I also used items I already had.  I brought out the display stand I made with a gold colored plate and added a white ceramic pumpkin from Dollar Tree, a tiny doily, green bird from Michaels, and the wooden "Harvest" sign from Dollar General to the Good Will rattan tray for a simple vignette. These floral bushes were purchased at Michael's last fall on clearance.  I think I may have paid around four dollars for them.  I already had the wicker magazine rack, so I just dropped the flowers in the magazine rack and placed it on a vintage oval table. I added my brown birds and this Jim Shore Angel of Persistence  to the vignette.  The angel is a consignment shop purchase from several years ago.  I bought it for a couple of bucks having no idea that it was more valuable.  They now sell for $17.50.  She's dressed...
