Fall Outdoors

Today, it's only 76 degrees here!  Yay!! There is a cool breeze blowing, and it feels like fall has arrived.  What better time to show you the front porch, and the green spot nearby. This is the area to the right of the front door steps.  The plants are about spent, but I'll leave them until later on. The black iron pot below belonged to my mother, and maybe her mother.  I got it out this year so I can enjoy it. These steps go into the mud room and laundry room.  That's a rain chain hanging beside the plants.  My husband hates it, but I love it, so it stays.  It's not in a place where it works, but, I like the look of it.  Greetings from the front porch.  This weathered sign came from Dollar Tree. I love the way it looks! Do you see the little scare crow peeking out of the metal container? The rocker above is mine, and this one is the hubby's.  (see the chippy paint?)  Gives them charm. ...

Thrifting Finds

I made it to Good Will Tuesday for Sr. Discount day, and found some nice items that I bought. My favorite find is this picture, which I hung in the sun room, but I'm sure it will travel through the house at some point. I found one curtain panel, and since I like having narrow panels in the dining room with lots of sheers, I have already split it down the center, hemmed the sides and hung them.  They are a little short so I have to come up with something to add to the bottom for length, but I like the way they look.  Til I decide what I'm going to do, I've hidden the shortness by strategically placing the tea cart, and moved my blue table to the other side to hide the other panel.   later :  I remembered an off white panel I bought a while back at GW, and used it to make these longer.  I cut 18" off the bottom of that panel, which saved time and work because I could use the hem, plus it had weights in the hem, so it was a win-win.  I split it in ha...

Fall Color for Dining Table

In order to decorate the dining table for fall, I just added more dishes to the tablescape. It was a very simple and easy change.  I was looking through my photo library and found a picture using the fall dishes from Dollar Tree, so I thought, "I wonder how it would look to add those dishes to those already on the table".  So a couple minutes later, this is how it looks. I put the napkins in the stem ware, and added a dinner plate and bowl to each place setting. The addition earlier of some crystal with autumn bits and bobs had already added a little more color. If you want to add color to your table this is a very inexpensive way.  Buy some fall dishes from Dollar Tree for a dollar per piece.  I had these from a few years ago. Hope you like these colorful changes. Before:                                     After: Just...

Fall Finery for the Jelly Cupboard

I spent a few hours going through home decor bins this morning, trying to weed out some of my crap  treasures! I emptied 3 out of about 20 bins, so a little progress.  Taking it to Good Will.  I would normally have a yard sale, but that's too much work for me right now. I came across this faux bittersweet garland that I bought at a consignment shop, and decided to put it in the sun room on the little jelly cupboard that belonged to my mother in law.  I've shared it lots of times.  It's one of those places that constantly gets changed. Yesterday, I put the turquoise frame back on top, draped a fringy good will scarf over it, and added a grapevine wreath. The metal tray with the bird on it goes perfectly with the garland. You can see my pitcher collection with the fall colors on the top shelf. I added this little guy to a table top.  He came from Dollar Tree. Nothing highlights an item like a cloche.  This one usua...

More Great Finds at Good Will

I didn't make it to Good Will for my usual Tuesday Senior day. So I went today, and am so glad I waited.  If this wonderful pottery had been out yesterday, it would be in someone else's home right now, but it's in mine.  I have 3 pieces, all by the same artist, K. Brown.  I can't imagine someone donating this, rather than selling it.  No cracks or chips, perfect condition. There were several more pieces there, but I was really trying not to spend so much money.  Here's what I bought. The vase is a piece of the pottery.  I also bought the picture frame and put a print from the computer in it.  This piece was also by the same artist. This pitcher is the other piece I bought.  It matches the vase in the first photo. I also found this small flower pot. I couldn't believe it, but I found another tulipiere vase. I now have 6 of these.  This one was $2.52, in excellent condition. So my items for today, 3 pie...
